Default Boring anti-football/promotion

I remember contributing to a thread last year about opinions regarding boring 1-0 wins ultimately gaining promotion - with a lot of contributors saying they would accept it if it achieved the end result - promotion.

Following last season's efforts (although we failed at the end in the ultimate goal - or indeed scoring many goals) what is the general mood now?

Would you accept boring football, grinding out results to gain promotion or ultimately do you want entertaining football at all costs even if it ends up not gaining promotion - and if we had entertainment but no promotion would you see it as success?

I know the ultimate dream of us all is entertainment and promotion, but I'm just interested in your thoughts

Any football that gets us promotion is acceptable.

I didn’t enjoy last seasons careful and boring grind fest. But I would have accepted it, IF it had brought us promotion. In the end, we were well off the quality required and even failed to trouble the play offs. We have to play a more entertaining, expansive game, come August. Goals win game and bring the fans in. We got decent crowds last years playing like we did, just imagine what could happen if we took the game to our opponents. Despite what the pundits say, I would rather a 3-2 win than a 1 or 2 nil any day.

It’s a big NO from me.

You just can’t expect to go up by trying to grind out 1-0 wins like we tried last season.

My last game of the season was the 1-1 home draw with Halifax. We were hanging on for a draw at the end. If memory serves me right we were top of the league going into that game but Most of us with any sense realised that there was no chance of going up with that style of play.

As it turned out our luck ran out and we ended up where I predicted we would at the start of the season.

So it’s got to be entertaining football for me and not sit back with everybody behind the ball again. As we saw last season you can’t get away with it forever and it’s so bloody boring.

This thread is irrelevant because the new manager has already stated he intends to play football the correct way by playing attacking entertaining football, hence the BTB request till June 15th to compete for a quality striker.... That's if it's not to late by then.

I have no problem with tight defensive minded football if it is effective and brings results. Look at Atletico Madrid. Personally I don't find them boring at all because they have players like Griezmann and Costa to score goals. Where you have very defensive but no real attacking outlet you get issues like we did last year. You need a balance.

I get what your saying but that just not even a comparison.

There were games this year where we could of played all week and created nothing.

That's sort of what I mean. Last year it was all defensive but not the finished article. If you create nothing you are relying on mistakes or set pieces which won't pan out over a season. Which is why we drew so many games.

You look at Atletico (Which I agree is a bit of a nonsense comparison) and they also have some superb attacking players who can score out of nothing. Makes them very hard to beat. I think they only conceded 4 goals at home this season or something insane like that.
