Default Swansea City Academy in North Wales (& our youth setup)

As the title says Swansea are setting up an academy in North Wales and Lee Jones has been appointed as the develop manager.

He said “ My job will be to recruit from Aberystwyth all the way to Holyhead. Swansea has ambitions to look for players across the whole of Wales rather than just the south and west. I have come across a lot of talent in these areas over the years. My aim will be to introduce players into our (Swansea) academy system.”

May as well pack in our Academy then. This is grim news and another nail in the coffin.

We might not be able to compete with Swansea's financial clout but there should be scope to use it to our benefit by identifying those kids deemed not good enough for a Premiership club, but who the potential for us.

Hopefully, someone from the club will speak to Lee Jones, provided we haven't burnt our bridges with him.

It could be a positive, certainly whilst there is such a gulf in league status and their investment may ultimately mean good young Welsh players not making it at Swansea but looking to play further down the pyramid. Hopefully, times will change and we will be back competing and attracting some of the best Welsh talent.

Manchester/Liverpool both much closer to us and a bigger problem that we have been living with for decades.

Even the likes of Crew and Shrewsbury have been picking up local kids for years.

The difference is that they are actually going to set up a base in North Wales. Doesn’t that make you feel just a little bit uncomfortable?

Of course we should pack it in. Sadly on this occasion we have nobody to blame but ourselves. We made our bed.....

Whatever happened to the much vaunted Glyndwr Academy ? As per Jones, Wrexham and spotting talent.
