Default When did we lose....

When did we lose our ‘Big Club’ mentality?

Have the older fans accepted we are a run of the mill non league team just like the younger generation do?

The apathy is going to kill our great club.

Let’s see how the kid gets on in the early part of next season but we need to make our voices heard loud and clear if we don’t look like producing the goods.

Sorry if that’s blunt but personally I am sick of a club of our size being in this league alongside clubs who average 600 through the gate.

I don't think we have. If anything we're mocked by other sets of local fans (Chester fans come to mind) for thinking too much of ourselves.

And I don't think we're daft to have a "big club" mentality either. Through my work I've spoken with Oldham, Bury and Rochdale fans and all of them have mentioned that Wrexham are too big a club to be where they are when the topic of football is brought up so there's at least that view from non-Wrexham fans too.

It’s not daft to have that sort of mentality and that’s the apathy I am talking about. Having high standards of what we expect as fans isn’t a bad thing.

Maybe it’s just me who hasn’t accepted we are a run of mill non league outfit.

I'm in Newcastle and regularly speak to Newcastle and Sunderland fans, they can't believe we are a non league club. They are convinced we are league two or even one club. Well except the Sunderland fans they definitely know we aren't a league 1 club

Nice to hear. I am sure Sunderland won’t be accepting that!

I think the apathy starts from the top.
We have accepted we cannot grow the club and bumble along aimlessly trying to find a quick 1 season fix.

PPP leads to PPP. Work it out.

There isn't apathy at the club. Quite the opposite. What we have is a fundamental split in the fan base in how we get where we want to go. In my opinion shedding the big club mentality would help; it would stop us looking at headline signings every year. Plus we're not, and never have been, a big club in any league we've been in but this one.

The facts say the opposite. The club is growing every season. Higher crowds, higher turnover, lower/no losses, a better commercial department, a long term lease at the Racecourse, ground improvements, our own training ground, a coaching structure we seem to be sticking to (perhaps trying to replicate “the Swansea way”). Basically we just need the right manager (easier said than done).

What annoys me about forums and social media is often if people repeat something often enough it gets accepted as fact, even if it isn’t. The likes of Trump and Nigel Farage use the same trick and it is very effective.

As to the op. We do see ourselves as a big club. We are mocked for it by opposing fans. The difficulty is that “smaller” clubs in our league are often heavily bankrolled, even if it means their finances are managed irresponsibly and it puts their long-term future at risk. Because there is no financial fair play in the National League, it isn’t really a level playing field.
