National league recruitment process
In a league where most clubs I assume don't have scouts, and players seem to be on a merry go round going from club to club. How much is it agents flogging their horses, as seemed the case with Mills and his fees paid. Sam has said he talks to other managers and coaches he knows as he did before signing Luke. So if you know the league and players or not, is it watching the players yourself and or largely word of mouth.

Re: National league recruitment process
I would assume if you don't know this league you rely on word of mouth, the views of maybe your contacts who are in this league and watching dvd footage of games.
You really shouldn't trust the word of an agent, put it this way! |

Re: National league recruitment process
If we are paying out near on 1 million pounds a season on players who have been signed on agents recommendations or by word of mouth then we are in worse trouble than I already think we are in.
It's not just a case of having to know the players in this league so we can sign the best ones but also knowing the threats we are likely to play against during the season. This is a basic task that all managers/clubs carry out even down to kids football. I have a Las who plays u13 and after watching kids football since he was 9 I know the best teams and the best players in the league. |

Re: National league recruitment process
I don't think we sign players based on agents recommendations. Although allegedly what Mills did? Some on here said his mate was an agent?
Sam seems astute from what I've heard. Was it Mills or Saunders that mentioned people sending YouTube videos haha

"sam seems astute from what i have heard", you started the thread and then came up with this, and it just sounds like spin , he has not done anything to be able to make a judgement unless you know more than the rest of us

Re: National league recruitment process
It is odd to spend close to £1m on player wages
And not spend on a head scout to source best players - if your management team dont have the time Be a bit like a builder not asking for a survey report Spend £30k a year - on a scout - might save you in the long run - rather than rely on dodgy dvds or word of mouth from people outside the club |

Re: National league recruitment process
Keates, Davies and Darlington did go to scout teams and players. They said it themselves on the Dragonheart podcast over the past season. Not just full games on a DVD. Actually physically going out there themselves.

Re: National league recruitment process
Our wage bill is no where near £1milion is it? It was during the Moss days, now I think it's nearer £600k which is 20 players on £30k so you should be able to get a couple of forwards in for a grand a week, if you play around with your budget a bit.
