Regardless of FGR's perceived standing as a club, we've got two pre season friendlies against league 2 clubs which is a step up from previous seasons in terms of the footballing quality of the opposition.

Everyone going on about a ‘prestigious’ home friendly - who said we’d be getting a prestigious game!?

Not the most attractive opposition, but neither is a Premiership youth team.
Whole purpose of pre-season isn’t to delight the crowd, but to give the best possible test for the players and provide an opportunity to work on some crucial playing aspects.

Let’s be honest, regardless who the opposition is if the sun’s out and it’s a chance to have a few beers and watch a game of football then people will crack on and get on with it.

Most of us in the real world on here seem to think that this is an ideal test for the final game of pre-season. Pre-season isn't just about giving a load of day trippers a chance to watch Everton U23s play us off the park.

Agreed. I think the obsession with calling other clubs ‘tin pot’ and things like that is just something a small minority of our fans care about. FGR should be a good test!

Yes from a footballing point of view we will have a good test against those two clubs to see how we measure up.
I don't think they have fan appeal and certainly wont make money for the club to help offset the lost income from the Chester and Tranmere derbies.

This is the point. Surely we could have had a similar test against a team from league 2 who might have brought a few and we could have sold some pies/lager etc.
Crewe/Bury/Northampton/Oldham/port vale etc

We used to regularly attract Man United, Liverpool and the like - and the ground would be full, regardless whether it was a youth team or not.

Exactly. Ridiculous choice of team, bizzare.

F.G.R.were pathetic last season, avoiding the drop by one point.

Newport beat them twice, home and away.
