On the subject, great photo here of Southend United team 1966-7, which contains three future reds (and also Eddie Firmani, who went on to manage the New York Cosmos team of Pele, Beckenbauer and Carlos Alberto- second left, back row).

Southend - 1966/67 - Football - 1966 / 1967 Fourth Division - Southport 1 Southend - Photo Prints - 8499891 - Colorsport

Eddie May and Ray Smith. Who is the third?
Steve Ingle transferred from Southend too but is not in the pic

Was wondering who the third was myself - recognised Eddie May.
Never heard / remember Beanland.
Didn't Ray Smith head us into a first half lead at Anfield in an FA Cup tie in a 3 - 1 defeat.
Can still see him on the front page of the Liverpool 'pink' Echo rising majestically to head us into the lead.

Ray Smith certainly did give us the lead in that FA Cup tie at Anfield , silencing the Kop. Ray is sadly in poor health these days but would be happy that Wrexham fans remember him so fondly. He and Eddie May are both members of the Hall of Fame.
