Been a youth scout for 10 years for mutiple teams and personally know a few of the players and some of there agents and in my chats with them I spoke about Shaun as he's the teams main player and leader and this came up

Keates and many professionals do rate Shaun really highly even if we did let him go we could command a far higher fee

Not sure if Pearson ever wanted to leave Grimsby - I very much doubt it. But he wasn't offered anything with haste and so jumped ship to a club that made a 2 year offer.
We have the best centre half and the best club captain and leader we have had for some considerable time so wouldn't it be prudent to have offered him an extension by now ? (if indeed we haven't). There comes a time in a players contract where he might just think he doesn't feel so wanted after all - and if another club is willing to make an offer of 2 years or more security then his head might be turned.

If Pearson doesn't see any quality signings come in and a sign of improvement as July progresses perhaps he might just throw the towel in and decide he is at a club that's showing no sign of going anywhere fast - except downwards.

Ricketts will be judged on his signings - judgement day is almost here. The contracts scenario is over now - a new month has started and it's nearly time to go to Portugal for the squad bonding where you would think the squad would be pretty much complete in readiness for the trip.
