You'd imagine at least one of these is not a loan.

You'd have to hope so, seeing as the club owns just 14 players. Season long loans are more solid than the revolving door we've seen for a few years but it still smacks of corner cutting.

I see it as best use of available funds.
Lets see who else signs on before we judge.

At this level its more about player management. Look at Bishop and Boden, they get a contract and do nothing. The best and most experienced number 2 at this level is Barrow surely. Its the bit we have missed the point on in recent seasons, the old he comes across well etc. These 2 have the bastard in them, Monday morning facing Ricketts and Barrow will be a lot more scary than facing Keates and Davies. Neither have any sentimental connection which is good.

Having said that I still think we could do better and need another quality addition upfront. Pyke is a gamble imo.

Agree, the striker and winger need to be players of real quality and proven. The defender will probably be a loanee as backup. I would have kept Raven for that job personally.

I too was very surprised we didn't retain Raven - very good cover across the back four with experience and versatility.

Perhaps Ricketts has a plan and believes he can bring in better - but it's a bit like the chicken & egg syndrome - we need decent centre back cover but in reality that's probably all they will be so how much do we spend on a fee / wages for someone else to sit on the bench - and if your that player somewhere out there would you want to join us knowing Pearson & Smith are established centre backs ?
