We keep getting told week after week signings are not a million miles away. Another week has gone by, no signings, no GK coach and no assistant manager. We've got a player playing for us today who was released because he was not good enough last season. You can call it negative drivel id call it genuine concern for a club i love by what i fear is a rookie manager who is out of his depth. |

Re: Lex Reaction Thread (1-2 win)
£5 admission for an adult £2 for my son - programme was £1.
I think the gripe about the length of the match was justified - some travelled distance to be met by 2 x 30 minute halves. No mention of this on official club site pre match report and not all use facebook. Just tell people in advance and then they can make a decision especially if anyone was dropped off and expected to be picked up later. Onto the match. First half - probably our strongest 11 available with all regular first team starters. Jennings was missing - Dibble in goal. Half finished 1 - 1. Second half - total team change with youth players and Mackreth playing on the right wing - and there was me thinking we had released him. We win the second half 1 - 0. Bit of a borefest all round with nothing to get excited about. Second half players who caught the eye - centre back number 5 looked decent and up front I think it was the Fulham trialist number 9 who looked athletic and lively. A 30 minute run out for those present and that was about it. Downside I feel sorry for the Lex ground staff - despite litter bins placed around the pitch there was an array of plastic bottles, cans and fast food packaging all over the field - why ? There should have been one vehicle exit route - people queing for 10 - 15 minutes to leave were being pushed out by some drivers cutting through a gap in the crowd barriers near the exit. Conclusion - a glorious evening from which Lex made a few quid. We need those signings desperately next week. |

Re: Lex Reaction Thread (1-2 win)
Apologies for straying off topic but I thought I'd post a little bit about the game itself rather than the fact there was an entrance fee (no shit Sherlock!) and the game only lasted 60 minutes.
Young looked a tidy player and looked to spread the ball out to both wings, something which didn't happen last season. The wingers held a high line too and Sam seems to wanting us to play on the front foot a lot more. It was hard to pick any standout performances on such a short game, but I was impressed by Dibbles organisational skills and Holroyd looked dangerous every time he got on the ball. The most noticeable difference between this and last year's fixture was the amount of talking and tactical advice given by Sam throughout. He was in Leo Smiths ear constantly, telling him were he wanted him to be and ensuring he held a high line rather than.dropping too deep. Same with Wright, he was encouraging him to push and then drop to constantly create angles, something that was noticeably missing last season. The second half was less impressive with only the number 4, think it was the Airbus trialist, standing out. He was quick thinking and had good feet but was let down by poor control and distribution from his teammates. The number 9 who scored was busy but no real quality and the standout player was Mackreth although as usual, there was no end product. |

Re: Lex Reaction Thread (1-2 win)
Really good to here that Sam was shouting and getting involved with his team. 2-1 not really surprising really. Last season's team finished the season terribly and they could score goals all season. Changing our style of play, getting the players to express themselves and playing the way the new manager wants them to play will take some time. The lads had a run out tonight, it wasn't a competitive game, it was a fitness work out whilst helping out Lex financially. Well done to every one who went and supported.
Did anyone speak to any players or Sam himself? Any gossip going around regarding assistant manager, gk coach or players?

Re: Lex Reaction Thread (1-2 win)
I get why it was 2 x 30 minutes halves, but it should definitely had been advertised as such. I was half thinking they might have gone with 3 x 30 mins to make a full 90 but realized it wasn't when fans went on the pitch unchallenged. Hope the club learns from that if they do this next year for our annual Lex match.
As for the game itself, the first team looked decent for 5th day back from the summer holidays. Dibble - Very vocal. Commands his area well, didn't have too much to do other than that though. Roberts - Did his job well. M.Smith - Sun got in his eyes for the goal. Decent game but made a costly error. Pearson - Good leadership as per usual Carrington - Alright. Didn't have too much to do Young - Didn't stand out apart from his set plays. Wright - Heard Pearson tell him to stop sitting so deep a few times. Still finding his legs like everyone else Deverdics - More advanced role than Keates played him at, looked a better player than he was last season Rutherford - Had a good game against an admittedly poor left back. L.Smith - Thought he had a good game. Helped Carrington out in defense and looked good going forward Holroyd - Got a goal, caused problems. For the 2nd half I won't do a run down of everyone, but I'll add a few thoughts. Thought Mackreth was decent, if a little bit selfish. Trying a little too hard to impress Ricketts but he was the best player on the pitch during the 2nd half hour. Elstone didn't look like he could finish his dinner. He got lucky for the goal. Will give him another chance but not a great first impressions. Robinson would be out of his depth in our league. He lost the ball more times than I could count. The small ginger lad (Dylan Allshorn, I think) looked good. Possibly one to look out for in the future. And Ryan Williams is worth investing in too. And Tinkley nearly made an error that made Smith's look tame in comparison near the end. |
