Default Danny Wright

Bit of transfer news, not to us though. Danny Wright, has left Cheltenham, to join Solihull Moors.

I think Sam is taking this two year project business to the extreme.

Interesting times at our rivals Solihull Moors.
Mark Yates did a fantastic job there in the latter part of the season guiding them to safety from what looked certain relegation. I was present for our 0 - 0 draw down there and was impressed with their organisation - they had some decent athletic players, many of whom were big strong and physical - attributes that perhaps we often overlook.
Mark Yates has departed to Macclesfield - their assistant Tim Flowers has taken over.

He has strengthened with the signing of Wright who has been at Cheltenham for the last 3 seasons - has a good appearance record and although not a prolific goalscorer is an experience physical target man - aged 33 is not past it - could he have done a job for us ?
The simple question is can Ricketts bring in better ?

In addition Solihull have signed Brackley's big blonde centre back Alex Gudger, 25 years old. Anyone who watched the televised FA Trophy final where Kevin Wilkie's Brackley lifted the trophy can't have failed to be very impressed with Gudger who looked a fantastic prospect.

This week promises to be 'the one' - the jury is out on Ricketts - the quality and number of signings coming in will determine where we are heading.

I think Solihull will have a decent enough season.

Dagenham, Gateshead and Barrow are likely to struggle but you never know - who would have thought this time last season that Macclesfield Town would be crowned champions ?

If they can do it and Leicester can win the Premier League there must be optimism that we can do it - perhaps mental attitude from day one that we can and not settle for a play off place is paramount - the signings are crucial though - quality makes a difference and the ability to recognise a good prospect.

Wright is way past his sell by date hence why he has ended up at this 1st class pub team.

Old wayward elbows has hardly been prolific in the last couple of seasons and is now approaching the end of his career. Not sure why we get so hung up on former players.

I am sure that Danny Wright will do a job for Solihull ( help keep them in the league). He was never going to return here, as he is now a father and lives in Gloucester. Travelling to Brum would be his limit. Time will tell as to whether he has “still got it”. He was a good lad for us, but we really need to be looking at new guys.

Forget Danny Wright, he shafted us by feigning an elbow injury long after it had healed. He was fit enough to have played at wembley against Newport but chose not to play.

Slightly off topic: the only thing I remember about that game is the collective laughter from fans when the announcer said it had been a great game of football at the end of the game. Game was as dull as dishwater.
