Yet again... you've missed my point. The point made wasn't whether the budget was big enough or not, it was that Keates believed it wasn't big enough.

I'm not saying our budget it big enough. I'm challenging that Keates thought it wasn't big enough. My logic for saying this is he tried to sign Andy Cook. If he had thought his budget was too small, he wouldn't have done this.

FWIW, I believe the problem with top strikers is there are enough to go around. Keates realised this and made sure we were extremely hard to beat just in case we didn't get the 20 goal a season man he craved.

Yeah, he was wrong!

You are right about the not enough to go round bit. Hence you either need to
1. have enough money to outbid rivals, or
2. Take a punt.

So the signing of Fandop-Talom shows strategy 2, coz we ain't got enough paper for strategy 1.

Weren't we still chasing Cook after we had signed Boden? Keates always said he wanted another striker but didn't get it until Quigley signed. I thought Boden was the 'back-up' when we failed to get Quigley in the summer...

Makes it seem a bit more far fetched that we had the money, I think we (Keates) were naïve enough to think that Cook wanted to leave Tranmere enough that we could get him at a cut price hence why he kept hanging on.

IF you believe the story around Cook our offers for him were laughed out the building by Tranmere and had no chance of getting him. Also as has been said they would not sell him to us which with the benefit of hindsight by them was a smart move. He may have wanted to leave but unlike us they didn't go for the soft option and made him tough it out.

Coming back to now even with another decent set of season tickets sales and BTB we find ourselves yet again scrapping around the bottom of the bin. I cannot believe that our main striker for the season is going to be a bench warmer from Halifax. I really do hope there is a quality striker coming in but the reality if Fondop is our man. Makes you wonder is the budget has been cut back this year?

Well we won't have any sell on fees coming in or young player's to sell so I accept without facts I'm just guessing here that it won't be as big.

Saw him at club shop this lunchtime - big fella who looks like he will be very physical. We had a joke about minimum 20 goals needed, seemed a nice lad.
