I agree with the OP - like it or not, the next generation of fans will engage with the club via social media.

The newly chosen hashtag is generic and, while currently dominated by Wrexham AFC posts, is also populated by cycling teams and so on.

A hashtag like the suggested #wearewrexham has more identity and is less likely to have random irrelevant stuff popping up.

However, I don't understand why #wxmafc was abandoned as that was being used quite widely, including by local media like Rich Williams from the Leader.

Agree that it needs to be more team-specific, especially given we aren't an established enough brand to get away with something a little too generic. Building pride in Wrexham, the team and the town, should be the key to this. It'd be nice if we backed this up with a uniform style of playing football too from youth to senior, something that we the fans are happy with. That requires a lot of time and investment though - something our current model and demands don't allow.

People may dislike the idea of a 'brand' but it's the modern world we live in and is largely proven to work. We may as well jump in on it and explore this as another avenue of raising awareness, increasing the fanbase, and, hopefully, increasing our income. Social media isn't particularly expensive so may as well use it - nothing to lose.

I've got a mate who does the media stuff for Nike in the US. He laughed at the #weareoneteam stuff as it doesn't set us apart from any other team as anyone could use that bollocks. He's at a loss why we don't play more on the fact we're fans owned. Photo's of a home game with the hashtag #boardmeeting or similar.

#weareoneteam is exactly the same as #togetherstronger, #bettertogether etc

Someone just thought of different words to say the same thing.

Agreed, I'm not a fan of #WeAreOneTeam as it's far too generic, and feel a bit daft using it. No issue with #WxmAFC or #WeAreWrexham etc and feel it's a good way if connecting fans online
