Default The Real Success Story of 2017/18

Of course we can admire the likes of Manchester City, Liverpool and others but in every way ,both on and off the field, they may as well be in a different universe.

There are many comments on here relating to the amount of available money the likes of Salford City, Chesterfield and some London teams have to recruit players, and we are right to be concerned.

But lets wind back to this time last year - no one in their wildest dreams, surely even the Clubs themselves, would have expected Accrington Stanley and Macclesfield to be champions of their respective leagues.

One of the greatest aspects about football is its unpredictability and last year proved, certainly at the lower levels, that money is not the only factor which leads to success. Like many on here I would like to see a couple of experienced and proven players join our Club but for all anyone knows we may already hold the key that will open the door to promotion.

I hope those who run our Club have studied in real depth what made Accrington and Macclesfield so successful last year. We will never be like Manchester City etc but we can learn from more humble teams nearer to ourselves and try to emulate their achievements. Good luck to them both next season and lets hope we are the next 'surprise package'.

its a bit shit that we have to be hopeful instead of confident of a good season

When was the last time you went into a season confident? From my memories, even the promotion seasons weren’t ones where fans had started the season by being utterly convinced we’d go up.

Absolutely agree, and in terms of overperformance you can probably add Shrewsbury to that list as well. I know they are rivals but you have to say they always give an impression of being a very well run club off the pitch, so it could be worth having a look at them as well.

Shrewsbury were actually one of the favourites for relegation with many pundits prior to last season. I noticed the other day that "Four Four Two" magazine had them down to finish third from bottom in their season predictions and highlighted high player turnover and lack of managerial experience as factors behind this.

So much for experts................

It is probably no more than good fortune picking players who all came good at the same time. So to that extent I agree we may have the players already. I choose not to get involved in the everlasting debate about who we should or should not bid for / buy. We are never going to be in the fortunate position where money can buy the best players so I say go with what the manager at any particular time can get and live with that. On the subject of money are you saving up for the missus going to the Christmas/ New Year sales at the Trafford Centre?

FSS - Please do not mention the T. Centre ever again - I have convinced Mrs B. that it is to be closed for structural reasons and will not open until Spring of next year.

Will certainly make the trip to Salford - I think the ground is a fair distance from the T. Centre anyway. I wouldn't be surprised if one of us wasn't top of the table by Christmas - and hopefully it won't be them!
