Default Where are we thin?

I think we have a thin squad, that isn't controversial. The statement needs qualification because it can be confused with an individual judgement on the players. For example you might think Fondop is not of the right quality to lead the line, but we have Pyke who could attempt that role, so we aren't 'thin' at centre forward, we might lack quality.

At right wing, we have Rutherford (possibly Pyke), we had Mackreth there last season.

At Left back we have Jennings (ok cover by Carrington) ,it was thin there last season. My view is we're ok at Right back as I think Carrington is very good there. I can't understand why we're looking at a trialist?

At Centre back we have two good and one too young.

The squad may lack quality in other areas, but if we need it to look 'fatter' then they are the areas that would give us more comfort.

It would be fairly terrifying to go into the season with Akil Wright at centreback, judging from pre-season so far.

What I find baffling is, if the crowds were way above break even last season this would mean we have more money than budgeted for. Yet our squad is smaller than last season. So where has this extra money gone?

God help us when we have a season where crowds are under budget although now we have the £1.2 million this will probably just sit in the 'rainy day' fund knowing our board.

We are thin at centre forward if you want to play 2 up front.

We are thin at wingers if you want to play 4-4-2 (we don't even have 2 wingers).

We are thin at centre backs we only have 2 experienced first team pros.

We are thin at full backs we only have 2 proper ones (Carrington should have been released seasons ago).

We should easily have an extra 100k to play with this season.
Foxy mentioned managed decline years ago and got shot down for it.

He did but managed decline is a bit of a silly statement, it's more like a case of lack of money to go around, it's a very expensive thing to run and football club especially if the ground is in a state of decay.. The Racecourse unfortunately is a moneypit, yes we get good gates but they even though they stood up well last season are not guaranteed long term thats where the decline is on the field of play we can't compete for the quality players needed to take us up.

Default Re: Where are we thin?

If Laington is going to be injured all season we are thin with regards to keepers. Have we got any promising youngsters in this position?

Id be concerned if our only defensive cover is Akil Wright, who dosnt look like hes learned the position yet. Or Tharme, who is very young.

Whilst I think Young and Summerfield lool decent, and Deverdics new role should suit him, we are thin if any of these get injured. Whilst Catrington and particularly Wright may he anle.to cover the Luke's we have noone other than Deverdics who can play in his position, which looks key ro how the formation works. Wed struggle to switch to more of a 442 formation as we dont have any wide players in the squad apart from Rutherford, who has no end product, or Holroyd who is wasted in a more traditional winger role.

Id like to see us bring in another centre forward type and an additional forward who can play in the 3.

So a minimum 3, possibly 4 players. Its looking increasingly like we will start the season a bit short in key areas. Which js worryingly remindkng me of Mkrrells last season when we started the season with no defence or effective attack

Maybe because the expression itself isn’t accurate.

The trust don’t own car parks to sell to artificially inflate funds.

Managed decline makes it sound like whoever is in charge has a concerted plan to run the club down. Thats hardly a charge you could level at the WST in all seriousness unless your persepctive was seriously skewed. It makes you sound like a member of the tin foil hat brigade.
