Think the back 5 will it pick its self

Dibble, Roberts, Jennings, Pearson and Smith.

Wonder if he’ll go with the same 3 in midfield Young, Summerfield and Wright or try to fit Deverdics in instead of Wright?

Then Rutherford, Holroyd and Big Mike through the middle
He wont need to choose between Wright and Deverdics they can, and they should, both play. If we keep that back 5 which is very likely then the rest will line up as follows I think:

Young Wright Summerfield
Deverdics
Fondop Holroyd

Or...

Wright Summerfield
Young Deverdics Holroyd
Fondup.

No Rutherford? Can you leave him out after the amount of assists last season?

I’d like to see him go 433.

Just got back from the match. Liked what I saw very much. First half we were the better team and went into the break deservedly up 1-0. The problems came when they replaced Blissett with Harry Smith, coiuldn't deal with his height. 1-1 was fair, and a good run-out. Whatever Ricketts said to them after Telford seems to have done something.

Individual ratings:
Lainton: 4/10 - Made some errors but otherwise wasn't challenged. Feel more confident with Dibble in goal.
Roberts: 6/10 - Standard game, was decent
M.Smith: 8/10 - Usual solid Manny performance. Got a goal too.
Tharme: 6/10 - Showed inexperience sometimes but otherwise played well
Jennings: 5/10 - Got down the left flank well but made mistakes defensively
Young: 7/10 - Distributed well and wasn't afraid to try and create something
Summerfield: 8/10 - Ran the show in the first half, was solid in the 2nd. MOTM
Wright: 6/10 - Broke up play, solid game
Rutherford: 6/10 - Worked hard, got in some good balls. Standard stuff, you either appreciate the effort or hate the lack of end product.
Holroyd: 7/10 - Showed his footballing brain, decent hold-up play when he was needed.
Fondop: 7/10 - Caused problems, but didn't get a goal. 10/10 if we're judging him on his comedy though.

SUBS:
Dibble: 5/10 - Conceded although there wasn't much he could do about it, otherwise decent game.
Carrington: 5/10 - Not really fair to give him something other than bang-on average. Didn't get time to show much but made some tackles.
L. Smith and Sargeant: N/A - Didn't have time to do anything.

All in all, a good response to the Telford loss. Hopefully it's not likem Keates' squad where we'd get a response and then back to the same the next game.

Well I haven't laughed that much at a game in a long time. Fondop will certainly be entertaining if nothing else but on first viewings shows some quality too. Really liked the look of summerfield!

Performance and result were a hell of a lot better by all accounts, but it is worrying he can only name 4 players on the bench including a goalie, a YTS and Leo Smith who clearly isn't in the managers plans.

Afraid so. Despite the assists the majority of balls in aren’t good enough, along with his lack of ability to beat decent defenders around the outside. An honest grafter who I admire in this regard, but wouldn’t (and shouldn’t) be a regular starting wide-man in a promotion winning team.

I have never rated Rutherford, but tonight was the best I have seen from him. He really tried. That said, I would prefer a right winger that was fast or tricky. Fondop looked a handful but I think that if he doesn’t calm down, he could spend too much time suspended. The balding midfielder from Grimsby looked a majestic play maker. Jennings at left back needs to do the basics well (defend) and stop faffing around with the ball.
Overall, not as depressing, as some would have led me to believe. We need more new players, that’s for sure, but we are far from crap. A third of the crowd tonight were from Wrexham - some folks believe!

After Saturday’s poor display at Telford tonight we looked much, much better all over the field - in Geraint Parry’s match report on the official site he used the word ‘balanced’ and I couldn’t agree more.

We started the match with Lainton in goal, Tharne at centre back (left side) for the injured Pearson with Wright pushed up into a deep defensive midfield position - Summerfield moved up into a more central attacking position with Rutherford to his right and Holroyd to his left.

Deverdics and Pyke were still out through injury.

We probably put on our best first half display at Moss Rose in years - lots of possession with most attacks coming through Summerfield who linked up well with both Roberts and Rutherford who must have got about 6 decent crosses in first half - most of our threat came down the right flank - Holroyd had little joy down the opposing flank and was often sat extremely deep but was also up against the impressive Welch Hayes who played a full back role first half and moved up as a winger in the second. We deserved to go in at the break leading. Neither keeper was massively pressured but Lainton did everything asked of him and never stopped barking instructions at his defence.

A special mention for Doug Tharne who was up against a big strong forward in the form of Blissett - he had a very good game and didn’t look out of place alongside Smith.

Up front ‘Big Mike’ was a massive physical threat all night and managed to entertain us on several occasions - I feel a ‘Big Mike Appreciation Society’ is about to start - superb how he hid behind our own players from his marker at a set piece.

Dibble replaced Lainton at half time. Second half we should have scored again when Holroyd headed just wide with an open goal at his mercy. After about 65 minutes Macclesfield started seeing more of the ball and had the better chances - scoring a decent heads equaiiser.

All in all a massive improvement on last Saturday - possibly a fair result in the end but we could have won it. Some very good displays by individuals which has restored a lot of my faith that things aren’t as bad as some of us were thinking.

Attendance 648 with 213 Reds.

The floodlights were very poor - hardly any bulbs and most of them were n’t directed to the pitch

Thanks for the reviews, sounded a lot better. It's very quiet in this thread tonight isn't it! I wonder why...
