![]() Ambition is a state of mind, its an aspiration. Some people, the big dreamers, have heaps of ambition and feel they can conquer the world. Vision = Champions Then there are the doom-mongers who think everything is going to be rubbish, because it always is. Vision = Relegation Somewhere in the middles is most people, the realists who think that some ambition is good but that it should be realistic. Vision = 8th position. I think most football fans respond to a club taking an ambitious approach and do actually feel stimulated by it and get an excited buzz. That usually means the club has to invest in a top striker or top goalkeeper or top midfielder or top central defender, or all of them. But ambition is also limited to the boring important practicalities like available funds and risk assessments on available budget. So you don't go bust. There is usually a meanline where a club's ambition and intent has to be sufficient and real to get the fans all believing. Otherwise any publicity or branding will just come in one ear and go out the other.

![]() We have massive ambition , but are also trying to secure our long term future which to me is more important. It’s a balancing act which isn’t happening on the pitch but is doing well off it.

![]() Top post, EP.
We need dreams, ambitions and goals to define what it is we are trying to achieve. Sadly, the days of just turning up at the Racecourse to watch a game of good, entertaining football is insufficient for many of our fans. This may be due to the development of the internet and social networks; it could be due to our status of a fans'-owned club. Regardless, there is an insatiable need for knowledge of all aspects of the club's activities, often before they have happened. Naturally fans want success. After years of frustration outside the FL, who wouldn't? The perception that SDR has already 'cocked it up', and the vocal insistence that this is so before a competitive ball has been kicked, puts doubt into whether the Board has the ambition and the wherewithal to deliver. That can be healthy but it can also be very counterproductive when taken to excess, and without the full knowledge of what is going on in the background. Personally, I think we do have the ambition, but have been handicapped by our recent history and our poor performances on the pitch. SDR starts from a position of inexperience within football management, but with a wealth of experience on it; he has a strong team around him, and a desire and quiet drive to get this club back into the FL. IMHO, the ambition is here, all around us; and, with some additional signings, I am confident we will finally see the return to more exciting football this season. Will we be successful? I simply don't know. But, for my old man's sake, and for the sanity of all fans of Wrexham AFC, I hope that ambition is matched with our support, some luck and goals. Support your club, and do whatever we can to turn our dreams into reality. Without ambition, drive and (sadly) lots of money, that will always be difficult to achieve. But never give up!

Without success on the pitch we have nothing to look forward to and that will lead to terminal decline. Are we really doing well off the pitch ? even if we are it means diddly squat if we dont do well this season. |
