i was watching our game v Birmingham away in FA Cup on you tube yesterday. I watched it 3 times back to back.

it was the only big giant killing match i'd ever missed over 40 years. it was gutting. i remember being stuck packing boxes to send to NY and wondering where it had all gone so wrong and what the hell was I doing.

the point of that is that i'd give my right arm to have a midfielder at Wrexham with a left peg like Peter Ward.

the man was a genius.

darren ferguson was very good, but peter ward a genius.

i remember chatting to him in the cent one night and he was also a very humble and nice bloke which just added to my adulation for him.

This is a conundrum however it’s up to the manager to address it. I’m always of the view that you need to get as many of your good players on the pitch.

As it stands, I’d like us to play 4-3-3 with Summerfield, Young and Deverdics in midfield and Rutherford, Holroyd and MFT up front.
As with any formation there is no point shoehorning players into it when they don't fit. We have seen it time and time again with our left midfield. Leslie, Hunt, Kelly, Deverdics, Leo and now Holroyd who says he doesn't mind playing out there.

For 433 to be effective then the front 3 need to be able to switch positions or you need a decent out and out winger that can switch from left to right. We don't have any of these.

I quite like the idea of the 4231 for this season - providing the 2 are trying to dominate the midfield around the centre circle and not trying to play on top of the 2 CBs. However the main concern I have with this is the effectiveness of both FBs to push forward. I think Jennings is a liability and Roberts probably plays it a bit too safe when we push forward.

In the front formation of the 3 and 1 then it's vital we have some pace and creativity and I don't see enough of that with Holroyd, Deverdics and Rutherford to support MTF as the front man. Pyke seems to be the back up plan in this formation.

I personally think in football that tactics and formations is 30% and ability 70%.

Great tactics will win matches on occasion, but footballers with great ability will win the league.

Two good players but how do we accomodate them? Young didn't have a great game at Macc, his assets were limited by Macc's formation, he didn't get space. We've already seen Deverdic's ineffectiveness when not involved out on the wing.

I can't see how we play both of them, sad.
You may be right, but is it really sad ? Apparently house martins can’t build nests this summer because there is no mud as the ground is too dry. Now that’s sad.

With the money they made from their pop career they should be able to afford houses.

As a community club, can we put some of the Ward money towards a few pallets of bottled water to empty onto a dry muddy field?
