Default NLP Season Preview today

Apart from Russell Penn (Bless him) none of their experts consider we will be a threat to the title or the play offs. They seem unable to see their way past tipping a newcomer to the League for the title.

In common with BT, the NLP appear to be in favour of Salford's way of buying into the Football League, last week they gave the front page over to Gary Neville's defence of the club's spending. No one on the paper has any qualms about Salford's modus operandi or raised the issue of extending FFP to the National League.

Fair assessment I would say.
Lots of teams have recruited far better than us including Salford, Hartlepool and Orient.
Add to that teams who were better than us anyway - Aldershot, Boreham Wood, Fylde, Sutton, Ebbsfleet, Dover and Bromley then we would need to improve a bit more than we have.

However as we all know teams don't always live up to the expectations and I think the league is going to be far closer than many think and a good start is vital.

I think this is a fair assessment. Quite a lot of unknowns this year though. Aldershot and Dover look weaker but with their managers I dont think you should ever write them off.

I thought Sutton had one shot after spending their FA cup money so will be interesting to see how they do this year.

Ebbsfleet and Fylde youd expect to be strong. Hartlepool and Orient will be better. Barnet and Chesterfield look like theyve gone about coming down in the right way. Chesterfields ownership situation might bugger them up.

Bromley and Bwood will be tough again but I dont expect them to do as well as last aeason. Harrogate could be tricky.

Beyond Salford its a tough league to call this year.

Ricketts has warned fans not to expect too much.. But there is no quick fix and Wrexham have finished 11th eighth and 10th in the past three seasons so have not exactly been knocking on the door..

Plus if he needs more than one season so be it.

They probably just think they have the strongest team/squad. Why does it matter that they have more financial backing than we do? It just smacks of jealousy to me. It’s like Chester fans moaning about us because we are better backed than they are.

Everyone “buys” their way into the football league and if we ever get promoted it’ll be the same for us.

Their model is more popular than ours and as much as people won’t like this it brings far more success on the pitch.

Anyone know what the NLP had as favourites this time last year?
I wouldn't think it would be Macclesfield but they might have been in the running.

They have probably had us down as play off contenders for most seasons we've been down here, and we have ended up mid table for the majority. So don't really care what the likes of Alan Alger or anyone else has to say. And like another poster said none of them would have had Macclesfield to do well last season with just 9 players in their squad a week before the season started. This league has never been predictable as the 'experts' say.
