Is there a defibrillator in the house?
Are there any defibrillators located in the stadium? I can't say that I've noticed any but there again I haven't really been looking for them. It is just my personal belief that any venue where large crowds are accommodated should have defibrillators readily available in case of emergency. These pieces of kit are so simple to use and being readily available they really are the difference between life and death. With passions running high in the stands some poor soul could find themselves in desperate need of this equipment and I would hope one would be on hand if ever it is needed. |

Re: Is there a defibrillator in the house?
As part of the stadium safety certificate most stadia must provide medical provision including a medical room, St John and a doctor on match days.
However there will be occasions when football or sporting activities take place without a crowd present. Who is at risk ? well, as the OP suggests - clearly the watching spectators but any weakness in the human body will certainly be found out in 90 or 120 minutes of football - players and I suppose managers with the associated stress comes to thought. There is a memorial plaque on a stand wall at Vauxhall Motors stadium relating to a Northwich Victoria player who collapsed and died on the pitch. There has been a big push to introduce them in many schools now. I would like to think we have one at the Racecourse or maybe even more than one strategically placed - not hidden and locked away from match to match but accessible on non match days when perhaps St Johns are not in attendance. Something we could ask next Tuesday at the Fylde match if not sooner - someone on this message board may well be linked with the medical side of the club. |

Re: Is there a defibrillator in the house?
The medical team does in fact have a number of defibs, the Paramedic and team doctor and crowd doctor have them available for both team and in fact anyone on site. The St.Johns are also equipped with these, and are based on the three sides of the stadium currently in use.
“Public access defibs” are a great thing, and becoming increasingly common, this is not part of the medical teams remit, but think it would be good if the stadium management could secure any available grants etc to have some located around the ground. I think as far as match days are concerned you can rest assured, in spite of limited funds, first class medical cover is still provided both on and off the pitch. Thanks. |
