Indeed.

I think redrobinman is being a touch blinkered above. I can understand his views to a point, but the biggest change in football, like in all other industries occurs when there is innovation and people doing things differently. Its called being ahead of the curve, being brave and then inevitably others follow.

There is nothing environmentally faux about what FGR is doing, its real and progressive. The stars on the kit is the faux, self indulgent bit.

The fans will take time, you can't build history overnight, but if they continue to climb up the league, with the benefit of Dales financial support, then you can be certain you will see an FGR supporters group emerge in Japan and China and who will be buying all the green merchandise from 7,000 miles away.

Stars in his Fin eyes is what Vince has. Fin tree hugger.
So cringeworthy. Maybe he could have a star for each away supporter they take - wouldn’t fill a sleeve.

Well, ones thing for sure, they won't get it (success) with what goes through the turnstiles...........

When he builds his new business park at the M5 Stroud turn off which will include a new ground FGR may well increase their catchment area. Lets face it Nailsworth is hardly a footballing hotbed.

But... nothing is sure and certain in football where success is concerned. That's pretty much rule no #1.

What is more clear is in the last 25 years of football (sadly) most success has been brought, rather than earned on a level playing field. That's (also sadly) a statistical fact.

FGR also have an owner with very deep pockets. (FL rules abiding)

I don't think there is any advantage as a Wrexham fan in criticising FGR because they can't attract enough fans through the turnstiles. It comes across as being a bit bitter for no reason. They can also grow and change that.

We (Wrexham) are a very big club compared to FGR and have a great away following, but they are still a league above us. Compared to say Newcastle we are a small club with a small away support. Its all relative!

Like you, I love Wrexham AFC more than anything, but I also recognise FGR are a progressive, innovative, football club.

I disagree with your final comments..
They are an inconsequential Football Club, with a wealthy benefactor who, in my opinion, is on a vanity mission. As is his wont and right, of course.

Without wishing to seem unkind, I wonder what would happen, in terms of progression and innovation at the Football Club if Mr Vince lost interest or had his head turned by another venture?

Does anyone know how many they brought to the pre season friendly?

So we should have gold stars for the number of Welsh Cup victories and a Platinum star for the LDV vans trophy for an international victory considering it’s an English League competition (wouldn’t stoop to the FA Trophy as we are a football league team!!)

Edit: We’re gonna need a bigger shirt!!

Its up to you of course, but I think its pretty risky strategy to say a football club is inconsequential when it is in a league higher up than us!

I think vanity mission is also a touch misplaced. He clearly likes the limelight, but his successful business is wrapped into ecology, so it makes sense that he is trying to direct the football club he owns in that eco direction.

Its not harming football, in his eyes it's trying to change the football industry for the better and bringing in sustainability policies. I can see why it alienates away fans, because delivering green ethical football is a bit like a black sheep in a flock of white sheep. The black sheep will always be targeted by the farmer because it looks different and appears to be an outsider, even if its wool feels just the same and or is a better quality than the white wool.

Being unique will work to his advantage.

Your right, if DV sold the club and walked away FGR would likely grind to a halt, unless a another rich benefactor got behind it . But thats like all football clubs who go down the rich benefactor route and most clubs who have been successful in recent decades have done exactly that. And another rich benefactor seems to always knock on the door for those type of clubs.

FGR as a club isn't dependent on their away supporters, but their fanbase will grow if they have success. Thats inevitable.

We need to look at other football clubs business models and find whats best for Wrexham, define why we are unique as a community owned club, but dissing other clubs fanbase and saying they are inconsequential won't get us there, even if it does make you feel better.
