A great headed goal that was rightfully ruled out for offside. Ruthers also tested the keeper after controlling well and hitting a powerful low shot on goal.

He came closer than any of our players to scoring on Tuesday night and deserves to keep his place in the starting XI.

Holroyd is wasted down the LW and should be competing with Fondop for the central role.

I'm not sure I buy this left footed player on the right wing business.

I know that would allow Maguire-drew to cut in and have a pop, but surely the main role of our wide men is to put quality balls in, and we should be set up to do that, rather than for wonder goals?

But did he score? No, how many goals has he scored per season in his professional career? Not many, he’s not suddenly going to turn into a goal machine, yes he had a few assists last season but playing the formation we’re every player needs to contribute with goals otherwise it’ll be another season like last. I know some rate him but his goal return for attacking player is poor, yes he had a couple of shots the other night but his problem isn’t getting into good positions it’s his arse falling out and finishing.

The alternative being the 4231 that Sam seemed to prefer with Wright & Young in CM and then JMD, Summerfield, Rutherford behind MTF.

However I think Summerfield was off the pace last night and would prefer Beavon to start.
I think we'd be overrun in midfield then, a lot of the improvement in the 2 games already IMO is having the solid midfield 3.

Difficult to advocate radical Surgery after the teams performances this week. There might be changes to the bench personnel, but that’s all.

Rutherford does so much for us defensively.

The 3 didn't work first half Tuesday though, we were outnumbered.
At the start of the 2nd half we dropped JMD deeper and Rutherford and the 3 pressed higher.

The key point for me is too stop conceding the CM to the opposition as it gives them too much of the ball. The 2 in CM would stop that.

Folks seem to be campaigning for JMD and Rutherford to stand firm and defend. Aren’t they essentially wingers? Tackling and physicality ain’t their forte. Does anyone remember Chris Llewelyn trying to tackle - lethal !
