If both wingers are coming inside onto their favoured foot it makes us even more narrow. It would also leave gaps straight down the line for opposition wingers to run at our full-backs.

Track back to the half way line or thereabouts and be ready for the ball to come out. Unless we really are under the cosh then it would need to be backs to the wall! Rutherford does defend. Probably not the best at it, but he is regularly helping out the midfield and fullback. Just because you are a winger it doesn't mean you are exempt from a bit of tackling! |

I remember when Mangan played in the wide positions of the front 3 he did a great job of getting goalside which was so important defensively. And he REALLY couldn't tackle! |

Re: Team for Boreham Wood
He does and that’s part of the problem. He’s meant to be a winger not a second full back.
How much effective defensive work does he do? He gets back into position as quick as he can but after that I’m not convinced he does a lot. This seems to be enough for a lot of fans. He’s one overrated player when you consider how little he does of what he’s supposed to do. I.e attack. |

Re: Team for Boreham Wood
Rutherford makes the use of what he has got. He ain’t fast or particularly tricky. Not a great tackler, more annoying and gets in opponents way. No physicality, as he is usually the shortest on the patch (bar the ball boys). I have seen him clack a ball, but not often enough for my liking.
Yes, I will support anyone in a Wrexham shirt, but it just goes to shows how standards have slipped, when some on RP regard him as acceptable. When you have paid yer money, you want to see players sweat blood in a Wrexham shirt, fair enough. He always tries, but I just don’t think it’s enough, if we harbour thoughts of promotion. It’s all about opinions! |
