4-4-2 Change of formation
I do think the front 3 need to be more flexible in there positioning and show alot more movement over the attacking third, with the players at his disposal maybe changing at times to an attacking 4 would give more help to the lone front man,ie big Mike as he does get out numbered and has shown alot of frustration, I now this would leave us out numbered in midfield but Halifax showed last night, if your front 2 are prepared to put a shift in it causes the central defenders a problem. |

Re: 4-4-2 Change of formation
442 is completely outdated. With only one striker up front you aren’t asking him to bring the ball down and go for goal, he’s there to disrupt the defence. If he wins the header the defence is turned, if he doesn’t the ball will have to drop somewhere and hopefully the other forwards can read it.
The main problem last night was we were playing patient, short passing football but the passing wasn’t good enough leading to interceptions, hospital balls etc. |

Take Liverpools 433 which is great with their 3 and some of the 532, 451 stuff etc. I dont think 433 suits us as they dont have the energy levels to push the high line against the opposition. With Rutherford LM and possibly JMD RM then it would suit us better. Fondop and Pike as a front 2 or Fondop and Quigley Whichever formation needs a bit more pace than we have now IMO. |

Re: 4-4-2 Change of formation
4-4-2 is a good system but you need the right players. It's not outdated but neither is it the answer to every tactical question.
In our team who sometimes struggle for goals from open play 4-4-2 wouldn't help, it'd be Keates-esque grinding out results. I think a 4-3-3 would be a more interesting tactical choice and would offer us more width to give Fondop crosses to attack as opposed to our current 4-2-3-1 system. |
