Anyway, back to the original topic!

10 games in and we are sitting well placed in second. The defence is once again solid and the bedrock to our challenge, but we still seem to have issues with scoring enough goals.

Our play is somewhat frustrating, we seem to take an age to get going in games and often ride our luck in those first twenty minutes. We have ball playing midfielders yet a lot of our play is still lump it up for Fondop to try and hold up, when he isn't being beaten into submission by opposing centre backs.

When we do play it fast and on the floor we can tear teams apart and if finishing was that bit better we would be scoring regularly.

But, we are second and entering a difficult next ten games. If we come out of this next ten with a similar (or hopefully better) points return I really do think we can push on and challenge to the end.

Let's hope our midfielders and forwards have their scoring boots on over the next couple of months!

It's not about obsession, clubs regularly sign former players and players do go to clubs where they have some affinity or have connections. If Quiggley becomes available I expect both SDR & Quiggley will consider it. Yes there will be more rounded strikers out there but Quiggley seems to have real potential to get better if he can get settled at a club.

Either way for now we haven't seen, anywhere near the full potential of our current strikers and what they can achieve.

We've scored 14 in 10 which isn't too bad when you compare it to the rest of the league. Far better than last season's drudgery though as we'd only scored 14 in 17 games, 18 if you include the cup.

I agree, its a marked improvement. However, I have concerns about how we will fare against the better sides this season. Sides who will take chances. If that is the case, I worry if we can score enough in a game to win it...

The defence isn't quite as solid as last season I reckon. Certainly early on in the season we rode our luck a bit to not concede. The last few games our defence has changed many times before and during games due to injury - but they've done a sterling job.

As it seems Lawlor is Manny's short term (hopefully) replacement, he should get fitter and the defence should start to become a better solid unit.

Think we are better placed than expected and still a lot more to come fro these players as we have only played well in patches.

The team seem better prepared and the manager seems more aware of whats required.

All teams ride their luck at times, we did it last season in the early games, sometimes you make your own luck but it usually balances out over a period of games. Despite the critism of Keates he set us up with 2 banks of 4 with 2 up top, to make us hard to beat and it was a necessary step change from what he inherited.

SDR has gone for a more progressive, 433, so the defence will get more exposed at times but the main areas we need to improve from last season is our ability to break quickly and have quality in possession. Far too often last season the ball didn't stick up top or our passing was poor. I think we have improved in these areas but there is still some way to go. At home we need to be patient whilst the back 4/midfield pass across the back as we try and draw teams out to create space, higher up.
