Default Just got back (via Freeport Braintree outlet mall)

Just 20 miles from my front door this is my closest away trip of the season but also by far the most expensive. Parking up at Braintree Freeport outlet village just a quick shortcut to the ground I just couldn’t resist killing a spare hour before kick off stocking up on designer bargains that I don’t really need.

Into the ground at 2:30pm ish and we have about three times the amount of fans in the ground as Braintree and the pubs haven’t even emptied yet. Officially 255 Wrexham fans attended but plenty came through the home gates and walked around. We had well over 300 there of which 1.96% of the official total came from that renowned hotbed of Wrexham support Linton in Cambridgeshire. Like a East Anglian version of Patagonia without the mountains.

The first half was instantly forgettable. A torrid affair with very little quality from either side. Lainton makes a good save getting down to his right in the first minute and then it’s a snooze fest. If this was a boxing match Braintree would have shaved the first half on points but there wasn’t much in it.

A silly booking for Fondop in the first half wasn’t clever. We could hear the referee’s whistle from 50 yards away loud and clear so the referee was right to book him for time wasting. Stupid as Braintree looked to exploit it with some silly theatrics before Ricketts did the right thing and hauled him off before he got sent off. Pyke comes on and fluffs his lines with a one on one where he should have scored, then gets booked in identical circumstances to Fondop. Have a word Sam.

But we look better going forwards with Pyke and Rutherford on the pitch. Down the right hand side we look good with Roberts linking up well with Maguire-Drew. But the goal came from the left side as we win a corner on 66 minutes. Pearson goes up and powers in an unstoppable header from inside the six yard box. Eat my goal.

Not a game that will live long in the memory but a good day all in all. 6 months ago we would have lost this game. An ugly, ugly win in an ugly, ugly ground in an ugly Essex town. Cheshire Oaks this is not but we grind it out to take all 3 points. And at the final whistle there were great scenes with players and supporters delighted.

And we have a new unofficial supporters group in the Llinton Reds. Celebratory pint at the Linton Travel Tavern anyone?

Aha!

Alright Wrexy good to see you today.

Will look into a 'Linton Reds' flag possibly with Partridge reference - maybe Lunton - equidistant between London and Norwich'.

Back home in Wrexham, ugly game to say the least, good following and captain Pearson the hero, 3 points and move on.

Good write up.

In basically every game so far this season, Braintree have been in pretty much every game, it's just been individual mistakes and short spells that they've been punished hence their league position. Today was one of those minging games you've got to grind out a 1 0 win if you're to be up there in April and we've done just that.

The biggest surprise today is that the game was on after a bit of drizzle during the week

Good read. Braintree to be fair have only been beaten by the odd goal and today's game i think we rode our luck and snatched 3 points, great support as usual and the waggon keeps rolling.
We deserve it.
