In the penalty area ? Can disappear. How many times do you see him being proactive and attacking the ball at set pieces when we are under pressure ? It tends to be Pearson chucking himself all over the place.

Manny Smith is a really good centre half and possibly one of our best in non league. But I can see why he hasn’t made it consistently at a higher level.
This

Manny very rarely comes off second in an aerial dual - but there are many occasions where he rises to a high ball totally unchallenged and simply launches it with his head aiming for distance - and nothing else. Invariably it goes straight to an opponent and they launch another attack - composure is lacking in that aspect of play plus he doesn't open his mouth and communicate either verbally or with body language anywhere like the standard Pearson demonstrates.

Tharme hopefully will be the future with us - a proper footballing player with all round qualities - I just hope we recognize it and do all we can to retain him for as long as possible. He needs some game time though and hopefully will not be sat on the bench or worse for months on end. Hottest prospect we have had for some time.

Tharme even at his age and experience is calm with the ball at his feet and his distribution under pressure is good.

Manny played 150+ games in the league for Walsall and Notts County. All but 3 were in L1. I'm pretty sure when he came to us it was seen a bit of coup and it was injury, not ability issues which had caused the drop to non league football.

Facts getting in the way of some peoples nonsense.
You’ll get a reputation if you carry on like that.

You're only ever as good as your current level. There have been chances when he left us first time round and Gateshead for league clubs to come in and they didn't. Four years in non-league tells its own story.

I caveat all of that by saying I still think he's one of the best defenders at this level.

Fair point, though not necessarily true in every case. Money, as usual, plays a significant role with most players, which is to be expected and accepted.

How do you know that league clubs didn't come in for Manny when he left us though?
