Re: Sutton game
Always interesting to hear the views from the opposition.
Here's the post match interview with SUFC manager Paul Doswell - this fella always comes across as well grounded and sound. He highlights that they are 'part time' which always adds spice to the debate. Seems we got on the receiving end of a backlash reaction after their heavy defeat to Boreham Wood in midweek - also having made 6 changes to their team it seems, from various sources that most if not all of their players were top of their game - a bit like us for the first half v Ebbsfleet where everything we did came off. https://youtu.be/KRnChAkvUZU |

Re: Sutton game
Terrible camera angle in honesty and the footage in isolation didn’t show full picture. I was sat in stand nearest penalty box and saw the following. Sutton player kept using his head at waist height to charge into Pearson to which Pearson reached over the top of him and grabbed at his shirt. The Sutton player was clever in that he knew even after the initial discussion with the ref that if he did the same again Pearson would react the same because he didn’t know how else to handle the situation. Sure enough same thing happened and he hit the deck to make the ref make a decision. It was clever and Pearson was dumb. There was a definite hand involved in their second as Pearson headed it out but it was such close quarters that neither official saw it - IMO shouldn’t have stood. The red card was possibly not a straight red but did again look like a stupid challenge which the Sutton player made the most of (they screamed like they’d been shot at every opportunity in a tackle). Wanted to see a replay to see how much contact was actually made but even if there were none it looked like Summerfield dived in when already on a yellow which was only ever going to result in a second card (even if a second yellow making the red rather than a straight red). Overall a poor performance and one lacking intelligence possibly not helped by a ref who was easily conned and a linesman on one side who couldn’t make a decision for himself no matter how obvious. Fair result and we need to put it behind us and move on. Important that Pearson learns from the mistake which he clearly has as per his interview post-match and that we see a reaction similar to Sutton’s in the next game on Tuesday night. Felt sorry for the 380 fans who turned up at Sutton as the team let them down with their performance, however the fans were magnificent as always.

Re: Sutton game
Had no idea what the pen was given for when I was there, watching the highlights I still have no idea, the lads running at Pearson head down like a battering ram, the ref blows the penalty as soon as the ball is kicked, which imo having been there was out of play before curling back in.
Same situation with the red, it's a foul nothing more he's gone to block the ball, turned away and caught the lad late there's no stamp or anything of the like and again the card is out as soon as he whistles. Don't get me wrong the performance was crap but if people don't believe the ref has had a big influence on the game then you need checking. |

Re: Sutton game
It wasn't a pen simple as that. We weren't at the races at all in the time I was at the game (also left when it went 3-0) and Sutton were very sharp especially down the flanks. We were completely second best and the pen decision almost certainly didn't alter the game but the ref was extremely poor.
Don't know if Summerfield followed up the foul with some choice language for the ref; it may have been a combination of the foul and his language, as BT Sport in the clubhouse at half time, had originally referred to the red as being for "foul and abusive language". The red card was shown for the tackle. Summerfield didn't even speak to the ref from the highlights... Crazy penalty decision also.
