Default September Fades - First Impressions

Prior to a ball being kicked, many were calling for SDR's head, as they worried about: not having enough players; having too many loanees; and a manager who had seemingly never been involved in the professional game.

Over a quarter of the season has already gone, and teams are beginning to settle down to some recognisable pattern. No team has walked away from the crowd, and we have had a pretty good start, all things considered. Solihull Moors or Sutton Utd away have been our worst performances - were they blips or hints at our weaknesses?

We probably have one or two too many loanees, with Burgess and Hinds being notable absentees from the squads. Defensively, we have been mostly sound, albeit Jennings has again been the weak link. Lainton has not been the 'man of glass', proving a worthy first-choice keeper. The loss of Manny has been a bit of a fright, but Tharme and lawlor stepped up to the plate.

Personally, I still think we need a midfield general to boss things, and take some weigh off the excellent Summerfield's shoulders; while up front, Beavon has proven the doubters wrong, but he needs an equally savvy goalscorer alongside him.

In conclusion, we have had as good a start as could be reasonably expected, but we will need to improve if we are to win the league. We will almost certainly need to strengthen again in January, and offload a few players in return.

Play-offs look a reasonable bet at the moment, but so much could change over the remaining 32 games. That's 96 points yet to play for, folks!

I can see the need for rotating the front three but we need a settled midfield and from whats available it should be Summerfield Young and Wright.

Mid table for me, purely down our point return from teams in the top 10 so far. Hopefully I’m wrong.

Agreed, would also like to see a slight change in formation with Ruthers/JMD given a free role behind Bevon and Fondop who i would pair closer together

Behave we won’t be mid table.. we were mid table under Morell (his last season), Wilkin, and Mills.. even last season we were only 3 points off the play-offs.

We have a start similar to the 98 point season.. although I don’t think we’ll match that.

We've improved, as results suggest. But have we rounded the corner into a bright sunlit horizon......Not yet..... The midfield is still susceptible to being over run And the attack still needs someone cool and calculated in front of goal...But, as I say, we've definitely improved.

I stumbled on us playing at Braintree in 2014, on YouTube the other day...If you're not entirely happy in this present team.....I suggest you have a look at it.'

You'll feel a lot better..

Sams done a good job in a short period of time. And we aren’t big spenders like some, in this league.
Looking at the squad we are doing nicely at the back once again, decent GK plus Dibble cover, strong defence, and whilst perhaps not the greatest midfield, we do have energy in there....Wright, Summerfield, Young, and other options.
The obvious concern is the attack. We are doing ok’ish for goals, but not ideal.

One thing I have notice this season though is, when fans begin to grumble about a certain need on the pitch, or a weakness, before it ever becomes much of an issue, SAM is straight onto it, and putting a remedy in place. With past managers it would take many months to address deficiencies.
I’m sure Sam knows we are missing something up front, and he’ll be working on it.
Best thing again this season is the fans. Great support. COYR.

First impressions what a great Summer although August was hit or miss and September cooler at night. Autumn feels now..... Oh the football oops 😀

Similar in some aspects to last season grinding out wins looked better early season playing attacking football and deservedly up top, but we seem to be going backwards this last month, Ricketts said he want the team to entertain and score more goals, started off like that but we seemed to have levelled off since the crowd in the Techend were celebrating being champions down by the bar 4-0 up Ht against Ebbsfleet and we had won the league, second half a reality check and a reality check ever since.

Unless Ricketts finds his best starting 11 and solves the lack of goals from Midfield and upfront then another midtable finish possible play offs position awaits.

But the football is better on the eye than with Keates just lack about 3-4 quality players to push for the champions position.

Overall for a rookie manager who is still learning 7 out of 10
