sick to death of people having a go at refs. None cheat, they do their best and yet get dogs abuse too. The FA need to grow some balls and back referees properly like they do in rugby. We all know some have bad games as do players, it’s just football.

I agree. I have seen some terrible refereeing decisions but rarely do they impact the result.

What really annoys me is the amount of pst match interviews with managers focussing on the referee rather than their own teams failings. Referee criticism is part of the hype and brand of professional football in this country, esp.the PL

Standard gripe!

From someone who has refereed up to Welsh Premier Level (and only gave up because of my age) I loved every week, couldn't wait for Saturday's and always tried to referee with a smile on my face. Tried to be definite in my decision making and always treated players with respect. Did I make mistakes? Yep, of course I did. Did I get the major decisions right, my referees assessments seem to suggest I did. Did players make mistakes? loads.

Yes, you will disagree with decisions.
Yes you think you deserve more than the other team.
Yes the other team are kicking us and you're not doing anything about it
Yes I know there are two teams playing
Yes I do have my eyes tested regularly
Actually I do know who my father is!!
All standard stuff
We have seen some poor performances by refs at the Cae Ras but put yourselves in their shoes, instant decision making, relying on your Assistants to confirm whether a goal has been scored.

Ironically the better refs seem to appear when we have played well and won!
Great post.

One of the problems is people don’t know the rules and aren’t bothered about educating themselves. They have an idea of the rules but sadly they’re quite different to the actual rules

So we need to understand each rule to spot inconsistent performances by people who are paid to do a job. I accept that everyone makes a mistake or two but for me this season the variation in standard from good to bad is massive. I actually do think it’s part of football as is having an opinion and. Ring able to logically express it.

I thought they were laws not rules. I have no problem with the standard of referees, they do a job few would do, and (like the footballers at this level) aren't going to be the best, my gripe is the inconsistency in decision making

Not everyone has to agree with you though.

All you’ve really said is the standard of refereeing is poor and it’s spoiling the game. You’re hardly logically expressing the point.

Suppose you are right. You have only got to stand on the terraces to hear the abuse some folk give the officials . Especially the linesmen who must hear all this tirade and have to ignore it whilst trying to concentrate on the game . VAR should correct any bad mistakes but whether it comes as far down as the top of non league remains to be seen. The situation is made worse in my opinion by these boring TV pundits who rattle on and on for ages after every TV game criticising every move. I and sure they encourage non acceptance of every decision which doesn't go your way

Spot on - they are playing and refereeing at this level for a reason.

Ive reffed for about 6 years maybe. The difference in standard of refs between the league and conference is probably the biggest drop in quality. The guy yesterday was pretty bad, I honestly think I could do as good of a job. Worst ref around IMO by a mile though is Samual Allisson. Yes reffing is a difficult job especially when you have the likes of Pearson playing, but I do think that in the past 2 seasons they have been especially shocking

Also comments saying that refs don't influence the outcome of the game, in my opinion that is moronic. No offence intended.
