Re: Ratings vs Hartlepool

As I have stated I have very rarely marked out of 10 and usually just comment generally about a performance and whether it was acceptable. You can look at NLP, Leader, Post and then on here and get ratings of a 9 to a 5 for the same player which shows the diversity of the opinion. Like I said on Tuesdays game then Akil Wright was woeful on a number of occasions in the box, passing was poor and so was his positional play. If I had to mark him out of 10 then it wouldn't be very high at all for this game, likewise Pyke who basically did nothing. JMD flitted in and out but did actually create a few things and make things happen when he actually applied himself. The reality is that when you see ratings of 6 then I think that's an underperformance for any team that wants to challenge at the top. The expectation should be a 7 or an 8 but some give those ratings our quite freely. |

Your last paragraph I totally agree with and my point was someone just give 2s or 3s out in the same way, I also agree with some don't understand how a forum/discussion board works nobody here is arguing about ratings just freely giving their opinions on how they see it. Last time I looked we lived in a free democracy even if it is declining. Posted via mobile theme |

Re: Ratings vs Hartlepool
Can't argue with pagl or JND.
My biggest gripe is the negativity towards individual players who are not playing well in one or two games. I can understand the moans when a player makes a mistake or over runs the ball and even complain myself when I see an obvious lack of effort but I won't criticise someone like Fondop who has only played football in the last 3 years and is still learning the game. We have a history of players not deemed good enough for us who have moved on and sometimes upwards with other clubs. I trust the management and coaching staff to work on both the practical and mental attitudes that players have and hope that players who do not respond will be shipped out to make way for better. I'm with pagl on the ratings. Don't think I've seen better than an 8 for many players this season. Lets hope for a few 9's in the future. |

Re: Ratings vs Hartlepool
We are often comparing apples to pears or, more appropriately, lions to elephants because we all have our own marking guide.
Just for interest, mine is: 10.= Sublime 9. = Excellent 8. = Very good 7. = Good 6. = Above average 5. = Average 4. = Below average 3. = Poor 2. = Very poor 1. = Donkey 0. = Disastrous As PAGL rightly says, the players all need to be (7) or above if we are to win and entertain the fans. Apologies to Fondop-Talom; he deserved a (1) for his efforts on Tuesday, not the (0) I gave him!

That's why I agree with PAGL. If players put in a 'good shift' - make few mistakes and create chances and take them - and score (7) or above we are generally looking at an entertaining win. Something we all want!

Re: Ratings vs Hartlepool
We then get into Dr Who territory, with a fourth dimension involved, not that Bishop had a single dimension to his game!

I would take Bishop over Fondup anyday if it wasn't for him we would of never got to play Stoke away it was his goals in the early rounds, he wasn't great but let's be honest who have we apart from Moult been great upfront since the 98 point team. Posted via mobile theme |
