Understand the logic of passing the ball along the back to keep possession and draw the opposition out.

But we need a more mobile midfield and forward-line to make the gaps happen. We were too static on Tuesday, and gradually sat deeper and deeper, which allowed a 10-man team to press us at the wrong end of the pitch.

Very satisfied with the 3-points gained, but we also need some entertainment to go with those points.

SDR seems very aware of our strengths and limitations, so hope he can squeeze more out of the squad against Gateshead and beyond.

I'll be patiently watching from my seat!;)

Yes i understand Sam's point about control and moving the ball in other words make the opposition work to try to get it back, but where it's falling down is

1) the midfield not looking for space to give a pass & move scenario, to many stand ball watching.

2) It falls down to the above with just sideways and backwards options because of no outlet and when the defence do try to move it forward it's usually a hoof to nobody in particular & usually the opposition central defenders to get possession.

3) Too many in the middle (notably Wright) can't control the ball or make simple passes without losing possesion.

4) A lack of pace throughout midfield and upfront which we don't have to stretch the opposition.

5) No wingers worthy of the word.

6) playing far to deep when we have no pace, no outlet in the middle or upfront when the opposition take corners or free kicks for a quick pass.

7) only one man upfront and we don't have a player who can hold the ball up.

But yes Sam's points are valid winning when playing rubbish is a good trait.

Re: Sam asks for patience

The majority understood regardless of some that just wanted it launched forwards.
However the end result was the same - it was launched forwards after 2 or 3 sideways waves.

This is because of the lack of movement by Drew and Pyke and also the inability of the midfield to either pick up the ball, hold the ball and pass between themselves. Just as others have pointed out.

I think most of us came out of the game thankful for the 3 points but frustrated with the way we played and missed opportunity to improve the GD. Again as someone pointed out Havant did a job.

I think we have been patient for over 10 years and we have seen from these previous attempts that this style of play, performance and also lack of goals through the team will hinder us when the chips are down.

No matter how much people argue against needing to improve, refresh the squad and make changes in Jan we know that others will improve and we will fall behind if we don't.

We have some players who IMO are not good enough and their performances over quite a number of games - not just 1 off performances which we can accept in any sport and way of life as well all have off days.

I will say it again - basics, basics, basics and if players continually struggle with the basics (yes I understand its tier 5 and the players have limitations) then we will struggle to get promoted. Look at how Nigel Cough got Burton promoted and look at how he has since gone about returning there and improving them. Spine of the team, retain the good players and then replace/improve the ones that inevitably have to be left by the wayside.

Sounds similar to when Saunders started to click/Morrells early days, patient with Fowler ticking then up to Speight/Wright/Pogba. Don’t think we’ve got anyone on that level quite yet.

Can’t complain too much at where we are though.

We are very close to having a team capable of getting us out of this hell hole and back into the football league. With memories of that Wembley loss to Newport still hurting we cannot make the same mistake twice.
There are certain comparisons.. that season we were second to a well funded side. Then we failed to make the necessary investments in January to be strong enough to win the league or beat an average team in the play off final.
The board need to back Sam's efforts with that investment. 2 or 3 players of quality won't guarantee success but no investment will end up with another year of failure.
No excuses please. Spend some of the Ward money.
