Default Re: Who would you keep?

I'd try and sign both Lainton and Walker in January but I would've thought Beavon's wage would be a stumbling block at the moment so wait until the end of the season.

Burgess will be gone in 3 weeks and JMD and Pyke and Hinds wouldn't be available.

If it is just the amount of loanees in the squad standing in the way of Hinds then at least this might give him a chance, failing that he'll return to Bristol in Jan.

Its also a question of who would want to stay and that's without being able to afford them anyway.

As has been pointed out JMD and Pyke are at much bugger clubs and IMO would be way out of our pay league.

Lainton is an obvious possibility if surplus to requirements at Vale and they want him off their books. Walker I also think falls into this category with Crewe as well.

Beavon yeh tricky one but no point in changing his loan position really. Burgess likely going anyway otherwise why change his loan to finish in Nov. Hinds is a mystery really.

This then leaves Jan window opportunities with Deverdics and Holroyd especially if Sam has any new signings lined up.

Personally I wouldn't prioritise a permanent deal for Lainton in January. We have him for the season anyway, and there are other areas where we will need to sign players.

For the season-long loans, totally depends on if we go up or not. Lainton would be worth a signing, he's 3rd at best in the Port Vale pecking order (and I very much doubt he'd get in ahead of Scott Brown there, even if he does rise above Hornby in it) so we could get him on the cheap.

Walker I would offer in January to make it permanent. He's only 22 years old so probably hasn't hit his peak yet. I would also keep Beavon, always nice to have an experienced head in the squad.

JMD, Pyke and Hinds we'd have no chance of keeping so I'm not even going to entertain those, and Burgess I'd turn down, because he doesn't seem to be in Ricketts' plans.

Grab Lainton & Walker on a permanent basis if we can.

With half an eye on a potential League 2 place next season we will need to up our game on signings so a review on the others, dependent on where we are next April.

Lainton is a proper keeper and Walker has great potential

No others, not even Beavon who is essentially a very hard working nuisance 60 minute player but nothing else.

Compelelty agree about lianton and Walker, both are quality additions.
Bit harsh on Beavon, whether he is kept or not it is impossible to discount the value of having his experience in the dressing room / training. His football intelligence will hopefully wear off on others as the season progresses. We haven’t had of impact since Little left, I’m not comparing them ability wise mind.

For me if we're going to sign Walker then Wright has to be sold as they are both similar players & ages being a small club with limited funds having 2 identical players is a luxury we can't afford.

It frees up a loan spot in the squad though which we can either use to enable Burgess/Hinds to come into contention or potentially loan a new striker

Lainton is good enough to be our first choice keeper in this league or the one above so i'd try to get him while we can as he may well have other offers in the summer after a good season with us
