Season so Far
Great improvement on Keates' turgid teams; much more adventurous and entertaining; manager prepared to make changes (although yesterday's were costly); deserved and great improvement in our league position and looking likely we will be in play-offs. Extremely unlikely to finish in top two as we have failed to do the b....... obvious, ie get a goalscorer (not an easy ask mind you). Yesterday proved promoted teams have the necessary quality up front even if they are matched in midfield and defence. Salford will be tough and worrying. Hope Bobby Grant and other acquisitions do the trick and Ricketts loans out some of the non-achievers here especially Fondop who appears to have never kicked a football in his life. Otherwise I'm much more optimistic about immediate future once the moneyed teams have left this league. |

Re: Season so Far
Simple. Currently looking like a play off contender.
Need to improve for bigger ambitions and/or consolidate position. Good progress from last season, better football, bigger crowds? and higher expectation. Lets not have a Deja-Vu December/January. Its WAFC for you |

Better quality players than last year. They seem more creative but lacking in the final third. If we get a striker or 2, we may go up. At the moment I think play offs looking likely. Bigger crowds too. At least 4,000 every home game.

Re: Season so Far
More enjoyable than last year. Keates had a system that he stuck with come rain or shine and Ricketts is a bit more flexible with his tactics.
The "we need a goalscorer" thing is repeated a lot but it's fair. Fondop is having a worse dry spell than the Sahara at the moment. Pyke and JMD are weird ones to judge. They do come close every time they play but I think they would get more luck if they worked as hard as, say, Beavon. Holroyd hasn't played enough. However, I think he's the only player we retained in the summer that is worse than he was last season. Beavon works very hard but isn't a 20+ goals a season striker and is only as good as the people he's working with. With regards to "money teams", there will always be one. If Salford go up this season it's very likely they'll be replaced by Billericay next season. There's always some new pet project in this league. Unfortunately it's something we'll likely always need to deal with. |
