Walker better than Wright, Beavon better than Fondop and Pyke. Rutherford flatters to deceive and JMD is inconsistent as well. Were in a great position even with clear weaknesses but lack of goals and ruthless streak could be our undoing as predicted last season. Learn from history and I am sure Sam is aware of the same as I think it explains the constant changes. Its not form that is keeping some in the squad. |

However, perhaps to take 1st place and gain automatic promotion we need to win at home and pick up more frequent wins at clubs like Maidstone & Chesterfield - we wont always win away but it makes a massive difference when all those points are totted up - we can celebrate our home form and we can rejoice if we finish with 98 points - but meaningless if both Salford & Orient finish with more. I suspect Ricketts will continue to shuffle the pack in the final third in the hope that he discovers the recipe that gets us more goals - but he's running out of options unless there are changes to personnel - beginning to wonder if there are any other goalscoring options we so far haven't tried - anyone fancy Walker up front next week ? it's that or January as a last chance throw of the dice unless someone suddenly discovers their scoring boots. |

Re: Maidstone reaction
I thought we were fortunate to get a point today . We didn’t create much in the second half . Big Mike is short of confidence but hopefully will come good again . He is a beast but his timing for headers seems out . Beavon is a good 4 inches shorter but often beats taller defenders to 50/50 headers due to his excellent timing / spring

Re: Maidstone reaction
On the train home. We dominated possession first half and looked in complete control but chances were few and far between.
They rallied after the break, rocked us back a bit and got the goal but Walker seemed to give us our composure back and the scrappy point may turn out to be a good one. Make no mistake though, this was a horrible surface with players from both sides slipping and sliding and our forwards struggled to make it stick. Presume the changes were squad rotation which makes sense as this is a marathon not a sprint and next week is a big one. Thought Akil Wright had a good game today, breaking things down and making inroads into their half. Before the game would have taken a point as they have picked up recently and the astro is tricky. Having seen the game, it was a shame we didn't capitalise in the first half, but the team showed character to fight back in the second. Still happy with the point. |

Re: Maidstone reaction
Just got back and thought we deserved the point but probably no more than that. Both I and the chap next to me thought Fondop had a good first half and had some good lay offs but seemed reluctant to shoot himself. Clearly his confidence is shot. When we kept the ball on the floor we passed it quite well and at times our link up play was good but failed to trouble them in the final third. Our defence was pretty solid and their guy was lucky to pick up a headed clearance. Most of their other shots from distance went high and wide. Was a bit disappointed with JMD who rarely threatened taking the ball forward. Others will struggle on the plastic pitch (in the last quarter it was quite slippery and a number of players lost their footing). It could be a point well gained come the end of the season.
