Re: Sam not going to Shrewsbury - he is happy here
Article from the South Wales Argus
So where's this going ? Newport County directors are not concerned with Flynn being linked to STFC - the stumbling block with a return for Hurst seems to be Caldwell - fans seem split - gone a bit quiet on other names. Until an appointment is made and confirmed it's still twitchy bum time in North Wales. .................................................. .................. NEWPORT County AFC are not concerned by reports that League One strugglers Shrewsbury Town are considering an approach for manager Michael Flynn. The Shropshire outfit sacked John Askey on Monday with the club sitting 18th in the standings. Askey won four of 17 league matches with the Shrews after replacing Paul Hurst during the summer. Assistant manager John Filan and first-team coach George Pilkington have also left the club, with goalkeeping coach Danny Coyne taking over on a temporary basis. And the Shropshire Star is reporting that Exiles boss Flynn has caught the attention of the Shrewsbury decision makers. Flynn fits the mould of the club’s two recent appointments – both under current chief executive Brian Caldwell – of managers who have impressed at a lower level. But Wrexham manager Sam Ricketts is currently favourite with the bookies, while Hurst and former Blackpool boss Gary Bowyer are both currently ahead of Flynn in the betting. And the Argus understands that the County board of directors are not worried by reports linking Flynn with the job. The Star reports that Shrewsbury are happy to play the waiting game to get their man, even if that means letting Coyne take charge of crucial games in the meantime. Coyne, who oversaw Tuesday’s 2-1 Checkatrade Trophy victory at Crewe, believes Town’s manager-in-waiting has all the tools to achieve success with Shrewsbury. He said: “I think it’s a fantastic job. You look at where we are, what we’ve got, the training ground, the changing rooms, the facilities, the stadium, the squad. “We’ve got some great players in the squad so whoever takes it over, I think, will be looking forward to working with the players and staff we’ve got |
