Default Re: Football Museum for Wrexham?

The headline recommendation for action in the feasibility study states the following:

'a. Recommendation 1: Establish a National Museum for Welsh Football.

'Wrexham Museum, home to the existing Welsh Football Collection, to be extended
to create a National Museum for Welsh Football, supporting future outreach,
education and learning models, together with the potential to establish touring
exhibitions'

Furthermore in the study it states:

'Whilst there is no current Welsh Government intent to establish any new
National Museums in Wales, there is a strong case for recognising Wrexham, the home of the Welsh Football Collection, as a National Football Heritage Centre. Furthermore, and subject to detailed discussion, and the development of a viable museum with appropriate content, the facility could be designated the National Football Museum for Wales.'

Paras 80-83 consider the proposal that Kop could be used:

80. In response to the original Racecourse
stadium proposal
In respect of earlier proposals for a new
National Football Museum, to be built as part
of a future Racecourse development and
promoted through a local media campaign
(2015-2017), this feasibility study concludes
that any future football heritage development
in Wrexham should be located as part of an
extension to the existing museum, to build
on expertise and resources and improve its
financial sustainability.

81. The preferred approach does not offer
a viable business case for any investment
in the ‘Kop End’ of the Racecourse, where
more commercial models should be the
focus of attention.

82. The on-going running cost of sustaining
a ‘National’ standard museum i.e.
designated space and utilities; interactive
attractions, quality displays, learning spaces,
acquisitions, specialist staff etc. would not
make any future Racecourse development
commercially more successful. It would
demand considerable additional capital
investment, as well as a significant on-going
running cost subsidy.

83. A specialist feasibility study for the
future development of the Racecourse
should however be undertaken embracing
all options for improving the performance
and sustainability of the stadium, informing
a future business case to determine the
priorities for capital investment, including
consideration of the sporting needs for
any necessary pitch and off-pitch facility
upgrades.

In summary, it's highly likely that the National Football Museum will be located in Wrexham and the recommended site is the current Wrexham Museum.

Agree. It will be interesting to see if Para 83 above is a wish-list or precursor to a proper feasibility study and investment.

The recommendation to use the current museum - and extend it - seems sensible.

Page 81 seems to validate what I've said a few times...If we're ever to get a new Kop stand. Anything underneath it, must be money generating..
Not something making little profit, or even at worst , be a white elephant ...

Anyway..The WAG realise, to put a museum under the stand, one would have to be built. Are they really going to get involved with that.??

If the link doesn't work, the bit that stands out for me is...

The estimated cost of creating the football museum in Wrexham would be £4.4m and would involve redeveloping Wrexham Museum, requiring about £144,500 from the Welsh Government each year towards its running costs.

If they put it anywhere other than the Racecourse, the decision makers should be strung up!
would be thee best place in Wales for a National Football Museum, rebuild Kop stand with the Museum built into the back would be best place.

very much doubt they would pay to do our stand up to do it though unless Glyndwr sell them just the Kop end to do so

According to my sister who’s a former curator at Wrexham museum they own a lot of the football museum stuff so if it did go down south we would have to agree to lend it to them.

Interesting if we could get it to Wrexham.
