![]() 'new research has revealed that the Racecourse Ground Club was founded in 1884 are not the same Club that was founded in 1864 then folded after being expelled by the Football Association in 1883. It means that the history of Welsh Football will now be revised with Newtown as the oldest Club still in existence having been formed in 1875. The only other claimant, Cefn Druids, can trace their ancestry to 1872 but the modern day club was formed as recently as 1992.' There is no surprise that this has come to light at a time when Newtown are tendering a bid for the Welsh Football Museum. They would stand more chance if they miraculously found another document suggesting that Newtown F.C. were originally founded in Cardiff. Mid Wales punches well above it's weight with regard to the number of Clubs compared to the scarcity of the population, and the standard is very good. However is it now the 'home of Welsh football? I don't think so. Last edited by BillEBadass; 25th November 2018 at 16.43:13.. |

![]() County Times trying to be relevant again? Was going to fish out the last beef with Wrexham fans but found this gem I have not seen before that over reaches on historical references too.

![]() The difference is Newtown have backers and a council willing to put money in, up in Wrexham, the council once again sit on their hands despite a push in recent years to increase tourism in the area.
Wrexham Council expect these sorts of things for free while wasting money on an arts hub that'll be mothballed in years to come. |

![]() Newtown bid leader Ken Davies insisted the new discovery changed the history of Welsh football and hoped the WG would recognise the role of Newtown Football Club as the oldest club in the country.
“I am a Wrexham fan of over 50 years and helped date the club’s existence to 1864 but the current club was formed in 1884, making Newtown an older club and the oldest club in Wales. Somebody needs to make their mind up, hardly new research either. |
