No one would be happy if any manager failed. We all have our preferences, based on who we think would succeed. However if we knew for sure they would then obviously no one would want them.

Thanks Krux. For me, Askey’s track record (taking Macc from 20th to 23rd in old Third Division during his first spell there, losing 4 out of his first 5 games during his second spell and consistently missing out on playoffs until last year’s undoubtedly impressive title win, and 5 wins out of 21 at the Slops) makes me doubt he’s likely to take us up this year. Personally, I’ve been arguing for long-term planning for a long time and would be ok with him taking a few seasons to build a squad capable of winning this league and competing in the one above (hopefully unlike the Macclesfield one which has proven to be far too weak for League Two); however a lot of our fans are generally insistent that promotion is by far the most urgent matter and for me, there’s little in his track record to suggest he could hit the ground running here.

If he had used terms like 'finish the job' that GB used then all speculation would have ended.
What do you think was the point of putting out tweets saying no approach for Ricketts, when anyone with half a brain cell could see what was going on. Were the fans being treated as a group with less than half a brain cell, did they think we'd all say oh good, that's OK then roll on Saturday.
The board were as economical with the truth as Ricketts was.

I suppose you have to be pragmatic in those situations.

They could hardly say no approach has been made, but we have a feeling something is afoot?

There was no approach for Ricketts so what should they say ? If you really believe that running a club like a hairdressing salon where all issues are openly discussed carless the factual content then I worry for you.

Yeah, obviously I’d be over the moon? No offence but that’s a pretty stupid question.

Ricketts until last Friday apparently denied all knowledge so what were the board supposed to do? Call him a snake in the press or play the little game that the screws and snakes were playing?

Obviously they knew something was going on but there hands were a little tied. It was the game other parties were playing and they had the rule book.

The board didn't want the distraction after all said and done. We had a very important football match to play and that was the most important thing.

They should have acknowledged the chatter on social media, expressed their support for the manager and reiterated that they were fully focused on doing whatever it took to ensure the club continued to move in the right direction with the immediate goal being promotion back to the football league.

I'm confident that is what was actually happening, to give us some heads in sand half truth treats us like the half a brain cell brigade referred to earlier.

The problem with reacting to social media rumours is where do you draw the line? We see on here the sheer volume of half truths and outright lies people post as 'fact:. It's easier, and usually better, to just ignore that sort of thing and only deal with actual things that are happening.

Yeah, I get that. I appreciate the difficulty of it, but in this instance I think they could have been more open.

Like I said, I'm confident they were doing the right things, I think the information coming out was poor and undermines the we are one team message.
