If not why no talk of reporting Shrewsbury for tapping up our manager?

I believe that Pete Jones said that the initial approach was made on Thursday last week - and was turned down. They then came back on Friday and met his release clause, so our control over what happened next went. On Saturday morning - the day of a huge game - he told the club he wanted to leave after the weekend. The club then asked him to stay away from the game. On Monday he agreed the deal with Shrewsbury and went.

If his sister knew about this happening ages ago, then she clearly knew way before the club did. It's pretty obvious that everything was agreed between Ricketts and Shrewsbury, and it was only after that, that Shrewsbury approached us. It's against the rules, but then I'm sure it always happens this way (e.g. when we hired Mills from Gateshead or Wilkin from Nuneaton).

This is exactly my take on it too - 100%.

I’m inclined to believe that Askey is a stronger candidate but we’ll never know who knocks us back and if we’ve learned anything lately it’s that sure things may work or not, and ditto for rookies. In the case of Lawrence he probably has more relevant experience than Ricketts did seeing as his Conference playing experience was a fair old while ago. Plus beyond Askey people will be able to pick at whoever gets it (and even at Askey - plenty are surprisingly sniffy about him).

I wonder if Ricketts made contact with Shrewsbury a few weeks back; the Board got wind of his contact, and hence started provisional replacement plans. Once someone told Shrewsbury the figure needed to trigger the clause, the Board had no option but to let him go, whilst also formalizing his replacement.

Only conjecture on my part, but is no more bizarre than other versions of this epic yarn.

My understanding as well and and confirmed by tweets put out by one of the directors, but some people look for any excuse to find fault with the board.

Not finding fault with the board at all, I'm no blaming them re-read my post, the board must of known of the contact as said above by TS that was my point.

I think you are probably right but apparently when questioned Snakey told them there was nothing in it. That was until Friday alledgedly.

Lawrence played League 2, it's hardly light years away from National League. It's not like he's oblivious to lower league football. He spent 5 and a half years playing it for us. I'm in the pro Askey camp but I'm not dead against Lawrence either.
