I remember watching us getting gubbed at Dover, listening to the press interview and then, once the mics were off, he asked me and a couple of other fans what he should do! Keates' beef with him was that he became a rabbit trapped in headlights and either didn't know what to do in a game or doing the obviously wrong thing, such as subbing Keates at Wembley.

As far as Keates getting poached is concerned, the board gave Walsall permission to approach him. Bonsor is a bit of a tight wad and no one expected him to pay the compo...he did. Keates would not have gone to any other club other than Walsall. Even then he wasn't going to go until his family persuaded him. Walsall were also unwilling to wait until the end of the season, and option considered. With the money saved on the deadwood shipped out and the compo the club actually made a profit on him!

The difference between Keates and Ricketts is that the board never told Keates to stay away from the club; they have Ricketts. That tells you everything as to which L1 club and Wrexham manager acted properly and which L1 club and Wrexham manager didn't.
Thats a great post. Worthy of being a sticky tbh.

I like our structure with Darlo coaching, finally a good Scouting structure plus lots of behind the scenes guys working on analysis and physical preparation so my instinct is to find someone prepared to be a like for like replacement of the Snake. I think Barrow has earned himself the right to continue as number 2 after his loyalty and professionalism this week.
Therefore i would ask Darlo to suggest the next up and coming coaches who impressed on the Welsh FA coaching courses. As an example i like the look of Carl Robinson. He had a long playing career with 400 league games at different levels, 50 caps for Wales and impressed as manager of an un-fancied team in the MLS
What so we can give a rookie manager another stepping stone to walk on ?

For Robinson see Saunders, Keates and Pricketts

I don't know who the answer is, that's for the board to decide but we've got to stop being a feeder club for smaller clubs than ourselves like Shrewsbury and Walsall.

2 promotions in 2 years and we are with them.

It's doable as others have proved numerous times but it takes hard work, wise spending and a bit of luck maybe.

I'm talking about his personality traits, not what he achieved last year.

There seem to be a lot of big characters in our squad and from what I've seen of Askey, he just doesn't strike me as a leader or someone who could command authority from senior players.

Just watch any interview with him if you don't know what I mean.

You can't pass judgement on someones ability to lead from watching some post match interviews.

Robinson is hardly a rookie, he was at the Whitecaps for 5 years.

Granted, he won't be familiar with the National League but that's where the likes of Barrow and Darlington come in, along with our scouting network.
