Default So if you were a Shrewsbury fan

Leaving aside the obvious banter, I think I'd be asking myself what's all the fuss about with regards to team Sam.

20 odd games in to his managerial career and whilst he's had a very good start, he's not looked like the second coming.

Our strength is there for all to see, and with the exception of the keeper, this was all put in place by last season's management so hard to give him much credit for that.

Midfield has improved, partly due to some decent player recruitment and having an extra body in there. Therefore possession stats look better but we still don't open teams up enough. If the shrews like getting drunk on meaningless stats they are in for a treat.

Up front at the business end of the pitch, well what can you say that hasn't already been said? A work in progress would be an understatement. Yes a lack of serious funds can be blamed for this, but I and many others would say this major problem goes deeper than simple player recruitment.

That said, I think most of us were generally happy with the job he was doing, could see some progression and from a pure footballing point of view would have preferred it if he had stayed. But if I'm a shrew, is that really worth pushing the boat out for ?

Then you have his integrity, or lack of it. Their last manager by all accounts lacked any kind of moral compass that didn't go down well and now they are going for someone who is cut from the same dirty cloth who is clearly going to jump at the first opportunity. I'd certainly be worried if he started giving out big juicy contracts.

Time will tell if they have made the right call and whilst any appointment is a gamble, this one poses far more questions than answers. Good luck Shrewsbury, you might just need it.

I'd be very worried about this appointment as a Shrewsbury fan, just based on his inexperience (which a lot of our fans were). It's a very odd appointment given where they are. Where we are and how the last 10 years have gone we really had little to lose.

That said I have been consistently impressed by SRs comments after games. His general approach seems spot on and I do think he was showing signs of potentially being an excellent manager.

It's just that the league they are in and the financial outlay they make is potential enough?

Hes mates with Coyne . If the team take to Ricketts , and he plays his cards right , can see it working well for them!!

Not a lot of us wanted Ricketts to be honest. He’s inexperienced but it looks like his our

Fully expecting Jaaskelainan to jump ship too and team up with Ricketts.

Could Ricketts be unveiled as the new manager of STFC before their cup tie this afternoon v Scunthorpe United ? no time like the present.

Although no official announcement Ricketts has burnt his boat at the Racecourse and even if he isn't appointed I can't see anyway back for him now. How true it is I do not know but I heard last night that Ricketts and Barrow have had an almighty training ground bust up over the move - perhaps all meaningless now as it wont change anything.

As for Shrewsbury taking a gamble on Ricketts - well we did with both Ricketts and Keates and it worked both times.

Hoping we land Askey ASAP - and just get on with it - if so it might work out better for us in the long term - I hope Graham Barrow stays - Askey & Barrow could be good.

Isn't the shrews caretaker coach also the goalkeeper coach? In which case jaaskelanan has no place to go.

Thought l read that somewhere.

Danny Coyne is indeed - but he's not Ricketts best mate - there again you may well be right - you just can't trust Ricketts even if your his best mate can you ?

Coyne must be quite well respected at the club (i assume), I cant see him being given the elbow - but there's obviously no loyalty in football.

I reckon best mate or not, Jussi told us all we need to know about what he thinks of Ricketts purely by being on the touch line last night.
