Great news and surely reduces the prospective managerial candidates?

I can only really think of Lawrence and Challinor... possibly Askey as his previous assistant is at Gateshead?

Or someone out of the leftfield like Ricketts was...

At Barrow's age and with his firm statement about staying put, he's clearly not going anywhere, which gives us some much needed stablity.
I think this is spot on. As well as providing some continuity now it also provides a bit of future proofing if our new man leaves within 7-18 months. It also suggests to me that the Board know who is coming in, that he is happy with GB as his assistant and that GB thinks he can work with the new manager. Didn't he say something earlier in the week about being allowed to work in the way he likes to? At the very least he would have wanted to know the kind of manager we were appointing.

So whoever the new boss is going to be knows the score it's his assistant which leads me to think it's going to be another young manager for him to mentor. Or is the rumours about Challinor at Fylde true? Both have worked together recently.

I'd be surprised if it was Challinor. Challinor dropped a couple of divisions from Colwyn Bay to chase the money of Fylde. He must be on a decent wedge there, so I can't see him applying for the Wrexham job.
I think he's on a good length contract as well, so I'd be very surprised if we make an approach for him.

On a side note, I don't like him at all.

When Keates left the collapse was because of the assistant and Darlington so not sure I follow that logic.

To be fair, I have more faith in Barrow as an assistant than I did Davies (though I agreed at the time that continuity would be best - look how that fared!) and would be happy with him in charge if needed to be.

There must be, otherwise it would very strange. Not sure why you wouldn't announce both at the same time though, which gives me some doubts that they have found the new manager.

On a side note I don't like Keates or Ricketts but that's immaterial.

No knowing this club it will be Lawrence somebody they can look up to with sentimental stars in their eyes.

Personally I think it is a good move which has absolutely no overtones whatsoever. It makes a statement that we are sticking with a man that stuck with us at a time when we needed him most which ,for me, defines our club. Any in coming manager whether he is known to the board or not can have no misconceptions - there is an assistant here so work with that otherwise do not apply.
