I can’t remember the last manager we appointed where a certain amount of posters on here didn’t say they were underwhelmed. Lawrence is a top man and a very likeable character. There’s no big ego, he won’t crave being centre of attention.

Let’s do him a favour and all get behind him

This will either be fantastic or a complete nightmare, no in between I feel. Let’s have it.

For me there are more qualified lower risk options out there. Why wouldn't you want someone who has just won this league at a smaller club?

Also just because the last two worked following your criteria above doesn't mean DL will for reasons I've already mentioned.

It really isn't difficult to get peoples reservations
Oh I get people's reservations, of course I do. I have reservations. Let's face it, anyone who claims to know that a managerial appointment will definitely be a success or definitely be a failure is either lying or a fool.

I was very careful not to say that DL WILL work on the strength of the other two because that would be plain stupid. I just said why would assume he wouldn't work? I just don't understand why Dennis Lawrence is being rejected out of hand by some as the cheap option or as not being sufficiently experienced.

Also .. just to pick up on what you describe as his disastrous reign as T&T manager. He has played four friendly matches with full squads against full international sides (plus two games against regional sides with weakened squads)

They beat the United Arab Emirates 2-0. The UEA is ranked 16 places above them.
The three defeats were by 1-0 (away to Iran - ranked 70 places above them, away to Thailand - ranked 22 places below them, and at home to Panama - ranked 21 places above them).

I'll admit this isn't a glowing record, but a disaster...?

I would be happy with Askey. I would be happy with Lawrence. Both seem to be good choices for very different reasons.

If that's the case then that makes more sense of the Barrow contract extension then.

I am not sure if Dennis or whoever is the right choice, every appointment is a gamble in this game, that will never change, but I would be prepared to give him a chance as I would Askey if selected.

Personally I don't see the pro Askey argument though,,
1 club career , admirable but not expansive experience, where are his contacts through out game.
One of the boys? Are you 12?

Hilarious and ironic rant at me for having an opinion.

What's with the double comma's? Is that what "the boys" do,, when they get really,, angry ? ?

If true happy with the Big Den / Barrow combo. Every new manager is a gamble. I remember people being happy when we appointed the experienced Brian Little and Gary Mills!

They beat the USA 2-1 under his reign during the WC2018 qualifiers too.

Thanks for your non abusive reply. I take your points on board, no one knows really do they. I just think there's at least 3 or 4 other that's should be ahead of DL and are likely to be less of a risk.

For what its worth for anyone who is greatly offended by my opinion, like my good friend llewelyn, I sincerely hope I'm wrong on this. I mean, why wouldn't I.

I would rather have gone for Askey. If Barrow has had a big say in the appointment I'm not sure if that is the way to go about things. He would surely pick someone he knows well and knew he could work with and hence keep his own job. Dennis is an unknown quantity in terms of style of football etc. It is obvious we need some decent strikers. Will Dennis, as a former defender take this on board or will we continue to be difficult to beat but unable to score many at the other end. We will see I guess. Sentimentality shouldn't be the main driving force of an appointment. If it is Dennis then I will get behind him but frankly any manager needs to win back the trust of the fans which has been severely dented after Mills, Keates and Snake.
