Default Parking at Rodney Parade

Driving from Reading to the game on Tuesday night. Is there anyone who knows where is best to park? Obviously it'd be great if it was located somewhere to allow quick exit afterwards, dont really want to drive through droves of Fans.

thanks

Depending on the result you may feel like driving through droves of fans.

I went there a few years back and approached Newport from the south, as you'll be doing.

I ended up coming up a fairly major road which runs alongside the river on the opposite side from the stadium. There were a few smallish car parks on that road. I parked pretty much opposite a footbridge across the river, then it was about a 2 minute walk to the ground. Rodney Parade is in the middle of a residential area and there seemed to be plenty of street parking without any obvious restrictions if you want to get closer.

Hope that helps.

Parking around the ground is not easy to be honest.

I tend to park at one of three places;

1) Behind the Neon club in Clarence Place. It looks a bit shady around there, but it's busy on matchdays and plenty of residential parking spaces available.

2) If you go through Clarence Place, keep left, straight over the lights at the cenotaph down Caerleon Road, and then take the first right (it's pretty well hidden), you will find yourself in the car park of the Clarence Club. There won't be any problem with away fans here as it's pretty quiet even at the best of times.

3) Failing that, there is the Kingsway Car Park in the City Centre (multi-storey) which is easy enough to find (just put Newport Leisure Centre into your sat nav). You'll then need to cross over Millennium Walk (the new bridge going over the river), but this will take you almost right outside the away end.

I think the away facilities at the ground are pretty good these days from what I'm told - a brand new bar (Rodney's), Sky TV, etc, so if you don't fancy walking around Newport I'd just head there, although there is literally a pub every few hundred yards in Maindee and the City Centre.

If you are following the route just given, there is now a large car park just across the river. It's the ground level floor of the Friars Walk shopping mall and next door to the bus station. Simply cross the river on the substantial footbridge and you're at the ground. To approach Newport along that road you should leave the M4 at the Coldra exit (Celtic Manor) and take the first exit road, past Spytty Park and the velodrome, over the 'new' bridge and turn right. Sounds complicated but it's not really.

Post code is NP20 1EA

That will take you to Friars Walk, where there are two pretty big car parks available.

There's also some decent places for a drink and some food around there as well (The Potters would be my recommendation).

Alternatively, stay on the M4 beyond the Celtic Manor and leave the motorway immediately after the Malpas tunnel. Take the first left and it will take you direct to the city.
