Default Aldershot ratings

Well done to the Aldershot management. Let us all believe they were struggling big time and yet turned up with 16 players. The Wrexham team clearly bought it as well because we were second best for 30 minutes. Then Pearson had a header blocked that was going in and Rutherford really only needed to hit the target but shot wide with the keeper rooted. I thought we were clearly the better side in the second half but Aldershot still looked threatening on the break. Their keeper pulled off a fantastic save from Akil Wright and we were a toe end away from an open goal in the last few minutes. Ended the game feeling disappointed. The Aldershot crowd if you can call it that cheered like they had won the Cup Final!
Lainton 7 good hands and good kicking
Carrington 6 decent defending no threat going forward
Lawlor 8 won everything he needed to
Pearson 8 same as Lawlor
Jennings 6 just ok. Silly challenge first half
Wright 6 not sure I agree he is not good enough. Forced a superb save and should be allowed more freedom
Summerfield 7 thought he was fully involved
Walker 6 sometimes impresses but is clearly a defensive element and wins a good few headers and tackles
Rutherford 6 very busy today but I left feeling what has he actually produced
Beavon 6 have been greatly impressed with him but not so good today
Grant 6 not much of a game today not much end product
Holroyd 6 won a few headers but he is not a goalscorer.

A game we should have won. Yes we need a goalscorer but we also need much better delivery in and around the area. The final ball is only rarely a killer like the cross for Akil's header which should have won it.

Not too far off how I saw it, I'd agree the centre halves were the best performers albeit Lawlor's distribution was poor so 8 a little high for me.

The full backs I thought were both particularly poor, would give Grant a 5 thought he had a poor game and Holroyd did himself no favours with another insipid display.

Only Lainton, Pearson, Lawlor and to an extent Summerfield could say they had a decent game today.

Most agree with.....but Leightons kicking was dreadful smashed it into touch too many times.

Looking at the front 6 today, Grant aside, you would not expect any of the other 5 to score. Playing 433 cannot accommodate Beavon and Rutherford and need q goalscorer in the midfield 3 too.

Its a struggle to beat teams with 4 players perfoming.
Although we do this in away games quite often which is why I now give them a miss. Grateful to read all your ratings though and its a question of raking through the 9s from some and 1s from others

I agree with most of the above comments. Centre backs were by far the most impressive part of the team. Midfield seems to be lacking something at the moment - you rarely see the sort of interchanging we used to see from Keates and Harris a few years ago. We lacked real pace yesterday which was why I was surprised we didn't see JMD for 10-15 minutes. I too thought Grant had a poor game and would not be too disappointed if he goes elsewhere next month and also think Holroyd could be on his way if we get a decent replacement.

No comments above about the management. Earlier in the season i thought we were making better use of our bench than last year, but yesterday I was really disappointed that GB did not try at least one of our front players in last 10 minutes.

Reading the Shots forum everyone seems impressed with Gerry McDonagh. I didn't think he had progressed much since his stint with us and would be very disappointed if he came to us in January.

He put holroyd on best of a useless bunch sitting on the bench.
