Re: Micky Metcalfe
Rest in Peace Micky Metcalf.
He was a real hero for me in the early 60s, we attended the same school and lived not far from him. I am glad that others have remembered his three goals against Blackburn Rovers, he also scored in the 1:1 draw which bought them to the Racecourse. He scored 58 goals for us in 121 appearances and was in a very good team at that time. I hope we remember him on Saturday. Maybe a minutes applause on 58 minutes? Re: Micky Metcalfe
Very sad news. Played - and scored I think - in the very first game I saw at the Racecourse in October '61 against Darlington. Devastated when he went to Chester and was able to tell him so when I played cricket with him and his son Barry years later at Northop Hall. A great sportsman in every way - deepest sympathies to his family.

Sincere condolences to his sons and the rest of the family. Think it was a bit later than '61 when he went over the wall. He wasn't a bad cricketer too. |

Re: Micky Metcalfe
With out a doubt, one of my all time heroes.Had the privilege to meet up with him while playing squash for Castell Alun and he was playing for Golftyn ( Connah Quay ) mid 1980s. I played Barry his son and I got beat in five sets.Micky was telling me about the winning goal he scored against Barrow in the F.A.Cup at the Racecourse in the early sixties.
Very sad news. R.I.P. Micky never forgotten. |
