Default Salford reaction

Stopped in a pub on the way home from the game. First half was poor — far too little movement when in possession and often didn’t even get the second ball. To be fair to Barrow he changed it at the first opportunity, going to an attacking 3-5-2 at half-time, which was far better. Our build up play was impressive in the second half, helped a bit by Salford sitting back. That said, we never really looked like scoring — mostly because there’s no point lumping crosses in all night when we don’t have a big centre half on the pitch or even on the bench.

Still, six points isn’t a bad return for three tough fixtures. We’d have taken that on Christmas Day.

Poor atmosphere, poor performance and poor result. But like you say 6 from 9 PST ain’t bad. I think some fans were getting carried away so maybe a reality check would do us some good.

6 points is a good return with the fixtures we have had but it’s hard not to feel a bit deflated as our away form is woeful and lack of quality always shows up in these tough away games. We should all focus on the next 2 games now as 6 points are now more vital than ever, we have a habit of dropping off the pace in January so we need a couple of quality additions up top and some quality in midfield to replace Akil Wright.

Still well in the mix but the next month will define our season on and off the field.

One to forget but not a disaster.

Decent return from 3 games however Dover are well and truly on the up so we will need to be at it again Saturday. Hopefully any targets we have will be nearer to joining us also.

I suppose it was always going to be a tough fixture, expecting Salford to lose 5 on the bounce, whilst it's good that Barrow don't tinker with the side with it Being our 3rd tough game in a week some players were going to be running on empty, I think we'll needed a minimum of 3 players in, 2 strikers and a creative midfield general.

You also hit on a point that I've found frustrating for a few seasons now, when in possession players are static they don't move around look for space as in pass and move, so the player's in possession rarely has an outlet and why they kick aimless balls up the field or end up passing sideways and backwards.

Hindsight is good, but they looked shout there.

Fresh legs were needed from the start.

Comforting that Salford were shit and never wanted to attack at home.

Is it a mindset, is it formation, is it being too careful, lack of leadership on the pitch or something else?
1 deflected goal in 4 away games sums it up. Good job we had 2 home games over Xmas as I dread to think where we would be. I think a lot of the boxing day bravado will settle into reality.

Still a long way to go in this race but we need to address some basic flaws in the squad/team. GBs comments in todays media indicate were limited from the bench. Plus our elusive CF thats needed.

GB needs to strike now and keep the momentum as we know only too well how quickly the momentum can turn the other way.

Clearly suffering with a hangover from boxing Day’s emotional drain and Saturday’s physical toil, we were a yard off the pace.
We conceded a scuffed shot goal, having been the marginally better side for the first 22 minutes & that boosted their confidence. Their three big centre halves and five man midfield easily coped with the repeated crosses from out wide and stifled any direct play through the middle. The second goal came from any ineffectual challenge by our tired players. For me our fatigued players showed effort and passion but we were second best on the day.
