Default Re: January the end of Holroyd & Fondop...

We need 16 solid options not just 11 - sometimes the subs bench has looked very weak and limited. To do well I feel we need to have second half options in strength - it was really good that Barrow used all 3 subs at Salford - you could see why he did it and it improved us second half going forward.
I wouldn't be too hasty to offload our forwards who are not getting game time - if we bring in natural forwards and have depth in numbers fair enough - but both Holroyd and Fondop have certain qualities - they are currently out of favour but a couple of injuries and we would be struggling even more up front.

Maybe Newell will be able to coach him to improve his decision making and touch otherwise he's a lost cause.
If he doesn't adopt a good attitude then GB will not stand for it. Hope he comes good because he has some ability, but he is letting himself down badly at the moment.

I agree Red Light. It does all depend on who GB brings in during January. I think that Beavon is playing really well and Tollit looks very sharp. In my opinion they are both ahead of Holroyd and Fondop at the moment. However is Tollit a wide player rather than a number 9. I would not be too hasty to let Holroyd go. He works very hard and holds the ball up well. His control is good and I think he is a clever player and has a good footballing brain. While he is not prolific as a goal scorer I think he has put more away than Fondop. Was Holroyd top scorer last year? Like I said at the start it all depends who GB brings in during January.

The trolls are out on force in this thread! Of course there are no shades of grey in red passion land but my take on it is Fondop is neither brilliant not a clown but somewhere in between. He's a confidence player who is raw and a maverick and lost form and confidence. He's obviously not a Barrow type of player so probably won't get another look in here but is good enough for a bottom half conference team and if persevered with and regains confidence could go higher.

I think he’s a great mixer, and is well liked by his colleagues and bosses.
He’s extremely ambitious, but this is tempered by his empathy with others and intelligence.

Rather unpleasant and unnecessary that Ben. Having said that I do actually agree with you in that Fondop has potential is it going to be realised. I feel both Holroyd and Fondop are low on confidence at the moment. However I get the impression (only impression from what I see on the pitch) that Fondop does not like to be told/advised. I remember two clear incidents involving senior players trying to give advice. One where Beavon was trying to advise him and the other when Rutherford was trying to do the same. It appeared that he did not want to know.

Fair play Redrobinman you appear to know the lad and in that case my previous assessment in terms of taking advice may be wrong.
