I agree with Pagl. If you are going to loan players, they need to improve the team in some way.
Not much point in bringing people in to do nothing.
History would suggest that we, as a club, don't seem to be using the loan market effectively.

I agree that we don't seem to get the best out of the players we loan.
The bigger problem is getting clubs to loan players that we need rather than those that clubs want to farm out.
The players we get are either out of favour or recovering from injury.
A contracted player of some quality should be sought to run the midfield and bolster the side. I feel that irrespective of the forwards we use, unless we can provide better service we are going to fall short of both the automatic place and the top 3.

I understand and support the use of loan players but IMO they have to improve things otherwise they are pointless.

Ah well.
we get an unfit Stockton and fund TRFC, who bring in a goalscorer Chris Dagnall, now that seems good buisness

As with most things in life, luck plays a great part in things. Ideally, we would bring in good quality loanees who immediately make a difference but, alas, that has not happened again this season with the exception of Lainton and, to a degree, Beavon. Pyke showed what he is capable of against lowly Maidenhead - but before we get too critical, he was the only one who showed any threat - but had previously been carrying an injury, so was often mediocre. Furthermore, when did we actually know that Huddersfield would pull the plug on Pyke? Was it a big surprise at the last minute? Or were we given a heads up so we could sort out another loanee? I simply do not know.

We can still 'rescue the season' - we are still in the PO slots, after all - if we can bring in a creative midfielder but, without one, we will continue to scrub along. Whether scrubbing along will be good enough is anyone's guess. Like most, I am frustrated we have, as yet, failed to set the world alight with our signings and our play, but without knowing all that is going on behind the scenes it is difficult to say with any certainty whether we are being timid, incompetent, biding our time, or simply unlucky in our dealings.

The bottom line is 'don't give up until the fat lady sings'; frustrating? Yes! But not as bad as being an Aldershot or Chesterfield fan!

Luck can be offset in many ways - i.e. better planning in advance.
Yes it can be luck and trial and error with players loan or signing them but if you done the preparation and homework in advance then this in a lot of ways can mitigate this random side of things.

I mean do we really need 6 loan players in the squad when having 3 better quality paying a bit more and supplementing with COE would be a better route for us.

Agree.

The argument whether Ricketts or GB was the brains intrigues me. For all Rickett's efforts in the loan market, only Lainton can be classed a genuine success. So Ricketts gets a D- for that part of his stewardship.

In theory, bringing in loanees from Premiership and Championship clubs enables us to bring in better quality players that we could not otherwise afford. That clearly has not happened. Was it bad planning or bad luck? I do not know. But PPPPPP remains valid in all walks of life. Still too early to tell which way the dice will roll but I cannot put up with yet more failure. We need success on the pitch now; no reason why it cannot happen, albeit Lady Luck once more seems to have abandoned us at a critical time in the club's history.

She may have buggered off; but no reason for we fans to join her....yet!

You could argue walker was a success with Snakey Sam taking him up two divisions.

True; I'd forgotten about him. It will be interesting to see if he cracks it at that level.

For me, he goes from ridiculous to sublime very quickly. But he's young, so may well improve and become more consistent.

I'll up Ricketts to a 'D'!
