The play offs are not about crowds its just about opportunity.
A few more games to extend the hopes and dreams. Its razzamataz at best.

The final maybe about money for the league oh and Wembley.

I am a traditionalist and perhaps the wrong side of 50! If we want to see razzmatazz and “what you do on the day” that’s fine, we are involved in two or three cup competitions every season. That provides the knife edge excitement that we dream of. The league is different, it’s a test of consistency over 40 odd games. If we reach the play off final and play the team 15 points behind us (who we may have done double over already), and find that Pearson is suspended and two others injured, it would level the playing field.
Cups are what you do on the day and leagues are about consistency - let’s not mix the two! When we came second to Fleetwood many moons ago, we should have gone up in second place, as we were the second best team in the league. It was an injustice to enter the lottery of play offs. Play offs are “changes for changes sake” - a bit like changing our nickname.

I simply don't agree. Opportunity creates crowds by definition as do 'hopes and dreams' . If the top two went up and those positions were settled with 5 games to go then attendances would drop across the league.

I disagree with the rule as it's not consistent with other levels. Even the hallowed premier League let's 3 in a year.
None of the following former league clubs has managed to go back up after dropping down into non-league:

Barrow - 46 years
Boston - 11 years
Chester Mk I - 9 years
Darlington - 8 years
Halifax Town - 16 years
Hereford Utd - 6 years
Kidderminster - 13 years
Maidstone Utd - 26 years
Northwich Vics - 124 years
Rushden & Diamonds - 12 years
Stockport County - 7 years
Workington - 41 years

and there are others too, but most of the above have been out of the FL for
longer. The list shows the number of years since they were last in the EFL.
You may think that some of them are/were tin pot, but that's not the point.

We keep beating ourselves with a stick about our 10 seasons out of the EFL, but there are others in the list who would gladly swap places with us right now.

I think that's a good point. Southport too, 57 years in the football league, founding members (with us) of Third Division North. This is their 41st year out of it.

I'd argue that all those have either gone bust or are non league clubs returning to their natural level.

The only one comparible to us is Stockport, and they haven't been out of the league as long as we have.

disagree as much as you want but it doesn't change the fact that crowds are immaterial to who goes up or whether the EFL or NL care about crowd size.

Its all about the romance of some teams and the American hype of the play offs

I'd we finish 3rd and win the playoffs, I'll wait for all these play off haters to start going on about how it was so unfair on Solihull who finished second.....

Agreed. Stockport are comparable to us, indeed I think you can put an argument together support/history wise that they might be just about the biggest club in none league.

But the rest of those clubs are support/history wise in no way comparable to us (or indeed Chesterfield or especially Orient, who have been top division and got to an FA Cup semi)
